Dental Assistant

Job Summary Perform dental assisting duties in a dental clinic for Partnership Health Center (PHC) and satellite dental clinic locations. Key Responsibilities Seat patient, review medical history, and prepare patient for dental work. Arrange appropriate dental instruments and materials for treatment. Assist the Dentist and Dental Hygienist in performing patient services, including placing or removing rubber dam, applying topical drugs as prescribed, placing or removing celluloid or metallic strips between teeth, and providing suction/evacuation as needed. Assist in taking and developing x-ray films. Provide patient education regarding treatment rendered. Sterilize, clean, and maintain dental instruments and equipment. Assist clerical support to schedule patient appointments. Assist in maintaining dental supply inventories. Assist with maintaining patient charts, progress notes, and records. Perform related work as required or directed. Supervision Works under the supervision of the Dental Director, Dental Hygienist Supervisor, or designee. No supervisory exercised. Relationships Has numerous contacts with dental patients, healthcare providers, and other employees. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Working knowledge of dental office and chair-side assisting practices, procedures, and techniques. Working knowledge of dental terminology and charting practices. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of dental health promotion and prevention. Working knowledge of department policies and procedures. Basic knowledge of Federal and OSHA regulations for dental clinics. Working knowledge of HIPAA compliance principles. Working knowledge of PHC Corporate Compliance Guidelines. Skill in the use of dental tools and equipment, including x-ray equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and groups. Effective communication in English, orally and in writing, with patients and coworkers. Respect and maintain confidentiality. Maintain current BLS certification. Work effectively in a dynamic clinic environment and handle multiple demands and responsibilities. Motivate patients to maintain proper dental care. Prepare and maintain charts, record logs, and reports. Minimum Qualifications High school graduation or GED. Current Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) certification. Current BLS certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire. Completion of a Dental Assistant training program desired. Experience working as a Dental Assistant desired. Special Requirements Requires immunizations or proof of immunity to certain infectious diseases and a TB test. Physical/Environmental Demands Requires lifting of supply boxes up to 30 pounds. Risk of exposure to radiation when taking and developing x-ray films. Potential exposure to biohazards (blood, disinfectants) and communicable diseases. Work involves walking or standing for much of the time, with possible travel to satellite locations.
