10-Month Mental Health Counselor

10-Month Mental Health Counselor Curry College is seeking an experienced, licensed mental healthclinician to serve as a Mental Health Counselor for the CurryCollege student community. The Mental Health Counselor is afull-time, 10-month, generalist position in the Counseling Center.This position provides culturally competent clinical services andmental health care to meet the needs of the college's diversestudent population. The Mental Health Counselor will promote andsupport the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the CounselingCenter that incorporate equity, anti-oppression work, and socialjustice principles that support student wellbeing. The MentalHealth Counselor must work within their scope of clinical training,experience and ethical standards of professional practice. Inaddition, the Mental Health Counselor assists in other relatedtasks vital to the department's operation, including developing anddelivering campus communications or presentations, outreachprogramming to campus partners and students, and providingconsultations to students and key campus partners, as well as otherduties as assigned. Essential Functions: 1. Direct Care/Counseling & ClinicalServices: Provides direct counseling services to the student population,including short-term individual/group counseling; crisis assessmentand intervention; professional consultation to faculty, staff, andstudents; Maintains a clinical caseload as assigned by the Director, inconcert with the Department's needs and scope of practice; Makes appropriate referrals to community service providers, forspecialized evaluation, medication, neuro-psychological testingand/or more intensive counseling services when clinically indicated(e.g., partial hospital, inpatient psychiatric care); Provides informational sessions to student groups and/orclasses about available services and relevant mental health topicsas assigned; Participates in and/or creates training modules for campuspartners as assigned by the Director (e.g., training for ResidentAssistants and Orientation Leaders about assisting students incrisis); Plans and participates in psycho-educational outreach eventsand activities to the student community; May work some evenings or a staggered schedule to facilitateCenter staffing coverage and major college events (e.g., AcceptedStudent's Day, Commencement). 2. Consultation Functions: Provides consultation to students, parents, faculty and staffon topics within his/her professional scope of training andexpertise; Consults with health care and treatment providers, when serviceneeds are outside of the Staff Counselor's scope of training andexpertise; Consults with collateral providers as a means of enhancingclinical services, determining appropriateness of services, and toinvolve other providers when clinically indicated; Consults with the Director in a timely fashion about clinicalactivities and needs, including high risk situations to helppromote student mental health and safety; Participates in assigned departmental rotation of after-hoursclinical on-call consultation to campus partners in relation tostudents who are experiencing a psychological crisis when theCounseling Center is closed. 3. Record Keeping/Clinical DocumentationFunctions: Maintains daily schedule and client records in EMR ordesignated documentation system(s); Maintains client confidentiality per department policies andprocedures. 4. Supervision & TrainingFunctions: Receives and participates in regular clinical supervision fromthe Director during which case assignments, treatment progress andstudent mental health needs are reviewed to ensure service deliveryis consistent with the scope of practice within theDepartment; Assists the Director with clinical training and/or supervisionof clinical intern trainees on individual cases, outreach andtraining activities at the Counseling Center, as assigned; Assists the Director in supervising student employees workingwithin the Counseling Center in training and outreach activities,as assigned. 5. Administrative Support & ProfessionalStandards: Participates in campus committees as assigned; Provides informational and/or relevant statistical reports(e.g., may assist with quarterly, annual or other departmentrelated reports); Provides research and clinical training material asassigned; Maintains professional knowledge by attending appropriateclinical in-service training(s) in the field of college mentalhealth and other related topics; Maintains state licensure by attending relevant continuingeducation programs/workshops; Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications A minimum of a master's degree in counseling psychology, socialwork or a related field. Must have at least three years of collegemental health experience, or other relevant clinical experience.Must be clinically licensed in MA. Must be capable of using acomputer for daily clinical documentation and schedulingpurposes. Preferred Qualifications Solid team player with good communication skills. Builds collegial relationships with campus and communitypartners to facilitate service delivery. Ability to keep up with the fast pace of the Center andmaintain timely clinical documentation. Ability and flexibility to individualize evaluation andtreatment needs of students at the College. Has prior knowledge of HIPAA and FERPA standards. Multicultural competence. Has prior knowledge of learning disabilities and working withneurodiverse students. Essential Characteristics Ability to provide time-limited psychotherapy and crisismanagement with young adults. Clinical competence in the assessment and treatment of trauma,anxiety, and depression, among other psychological conditions anddisorders found in college mental health settings. Demonstrated ability to make clinical decisions concerning thedisposition of students with psychological problems and recommendedtreatment/resources and/or supports. Ability to participate in after-hours on-call rotation forclinical consultation with campus partners and community mentalhealth providers (e.g., hospital Emergency Departments, psychiatricemergency services teams) Ability to develop positive collegial relationships with campuspartners and community providers. Demonstrates a commitment to student well-being, inclusion, andholistic development. Maintains confidentiality and exercises discretion whenhandling sensitive information.
