As a Certified Peer Specialist, you’ll use peer support, advocacy, recovery education, and shared experience to help individuals recognize their strengths, develop coping strategies, build natural supports, and take greater control of their own recovery.

Our Certified Peer Specialists work alongside individuals in recovery, offering encouragement, advocacy, practical support, and recovery education. Through individual support, groups, and community activities, you'll help participants build confidence and develop the skills and connections needed to move forward in their recovery.

What You’ll Do

As a Certified Peer Specialist , you will provide peer support, advocacy, recovery education, and encouragement to Persons in Recovery.

You’ll help individuals regain greater control over their recovery process by sharing coping skills, supporting community connections, developing natural supports, and helping participants manage symptoms that may challenge their wellness.

Your Responsibilities May Include:

Peer Support & Advocacy

• Provide individualized peer support and recovery-focused services.
• Advocate for individuals throughout their recovery journey.
• Encourage engagement in treatment and recovery services.
• Share appropriate coping strategies and recovery information.
• Help participants recognize their strengths and possibilities.
• Promote self-advocacy, empowerment, hope, and individual choice.
• Model healthy recovery and wellness practices.

Recovery Education & Skill Building

• Provide recovery support education to participants, staff, and family members.
• Assist participants with Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP).
• Support self-help and mutual peer support opportunities.
• Help individuals develop strategies for managing symptoms and maintaining wellness.
• Support person-centered interventions identified within individual service plans.
• Assist individuals with preparation for greater independence.

Groups & Community Support

• Facilitate recovery-focused groups, which may include:
  • WRAP
  • Recovery Support Groups
  • Community Meetings
  • Symptoms and Coping Skills
• Facilitate group outings and community activities.
• Provide one-on-one peer support meetings.
• Encourage healthy social interactions and community participation.
• Help participants develop meaningful natural and community supports.

Documentation & Team Collaboration

• Complete required service documentation accurately and on time.
• Collaborate with Case Managers, program leadership, and other team members.
• Communicate participant progress and support needs appropriately.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Attend required meetings, trainings, and program activities.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support individual recovery.

QualificationsRequired

• Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) Certification
• High School Diploma or GED
• At least 2 years of experience working with others in Mental Health Recovery
• Ability to maintain 18 credit hours of additional training each year
• Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a recovery-focused team

Schedule & Compensation

• Part-Time
• $17.38/hour
• The Lodge
• Northampton County, PA
• Position includes community-based services and activities.
• Ability to transport program participants to appointments may be required.
• Schedule flexibility may be required based on participant and program needs.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, stoop, crouch, and climb stairs.
• Ability to participate in community-based activities and outings.
• Ability to occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force, frequently exert up to 20 pounds, and regularly exert up to 10 pounds.
• Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
