Circular Economy and Waste Manager

The Circular Economy and Waste Manager will lead the delivery and continuous improvement of waste management and circular economy services across the University estate, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient operations in line with the University’s Climate Action Plan and Environmental Management System. Responsibilities Lead as the University’s primary advisor on waste management and circular economy, setting standards and guiding leadership, services and departments. Ensure compliance with all statutory waste requirements (excluding nuclear), including Duty of Care and hazardous waste regulations. Oversee waste data and reporting for regulatory and sector bodies; manage waste contracts, including contractor performance and procurement. Control the £1m waste budget, driving financial efficiency across the estate. Maintain the Environmental Management System and support ISO14001 accreditation. Lead circular economy initiatives, including reuse and waste reduction programmes. Provide expert advice and training on safe, compliant waste handling; support wider Site Services operations, including deputising for the Operations Manager. Qualifications Experience as an environmental professional in a large organisation, with a background in environmental management, sustainability or waste. Strong knowledge of UK legislation and experience managing contracts and budgets. Proficiency in using data and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement. Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence teams and advise stakeholders. Professional qualifications (or progress toward them); knowledge of ISO14001 or behaviour change initiatives is advantageous.
