1:1 Nurse

The 1:1 School Nurse (LPN or RN) is assigned to provide continuous, individualized nursing care to a student with a physician's order requiring a dedicated nurse during the school day. This position is essential to ensuring the student's health, safety, and ability to fully access their educational environment. The nurse will remain with the student at all times throughout the school day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide direct, one-on-one nursing care to the assigned student in accordance with physician orders and the student's Individualized Healthcare Plan (IHP)
• Remain with the student at all times during the school day, including classroom instruction, transitions, lunch, recess, and all school-related activities
• Accompany and provide care for the student during field trips and off-site school activities as assigned
• Administer medications and perform medical treatments/procedures as ordered by the student's healthcare provider
• Monitor the student's condition and respond appropriately to any changes or medical emergencies
• Implement Emergency Action Plans (EAP), 504 Plans, and/or IEP-related health accommodations as applicable
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in accordance with district expectations and state regulations

Qualifications:

• Current, valid Ohio Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Current CPR/BLS certification required
• Previous pediatric, school nursing, or special needs experience preferred
• Ability to demonstrate strong clinical judgment and respond effectively in emergency situations
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with school staff

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and/or assist with lifting up to 40 pounds
• Ability to assist with student mobility, positioning, and transfers as needed
• Ability to remain with and actively supervise the student throughout the entire school day, including outdoor activities and field trips

Work Environment:

• School-based setting including classrooms, clinic, cafeteria, playground, and off-site locations
• Position requires continuous proximity to the assigned student

Additional Requirements:

• Must pass all required background checks and meet Youngstown City School District employment requirements
• Must demonstrate reliable attendance due to the critical nature of this position (coverage is directly tied to student attendance and safety)
