Job Profile Summary This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The position involves performing diagnostic radiology duties, operating medical imaging equipment, and applying specialized knowledge gained through vocational education, training, and experience. The role is typically applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory settings and is considered an experienced level position requiring basic knowledge of procedures and tools obtained through work experience and vocational or technical education. Work is performed under moderate supervision and may require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures with information that requires some explanation or interpretation. Job Overview This position is responsible for facilitating and overseeing activities of students in the Medical Radiography Program. The individual performs radiologic procedures on assigned patients according to department and hospital policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives. Procedures follow radiological standards in a safe, accurate, and timely manner to meet American College of Radiology (ACR) imaging standards and enable radiologists and/or physicians to make radiological diagnoses. Responsible for designated areas and/or procedures as assigned. Works cooperatively within departments and other service lines to create a system of quality health care. Job Description Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in Radiology or related field. Radiologic Technologist Certification (ARRT). Radiologic Technologist state license or license eligible. Four (4) years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Five (5) years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist. Two (2) years of experience in a Radiology educational role. Duties and Responsibilities The duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be exhaustive. Other duties may be assigned. In coordination with the Medical Radiography Program Director, serve as classroom clinical instructor/preceptor/supervisor for students. Follow the program curriculum plan and develop, implement daily, weekly, and semester class and clinical rotation schedules for students. Evaluate and assess clinical competency of assigned students and ensure a sufficient number of appropriate clinical cases to achieve stated goals and objectives. Organize and implement department policy/procedure orientation sessions for assigned students and Program faculty. Provide input on student progress toward class or clinical performance goals and assist in completing online evaluations. Oversee students’ maintenance of clinical activity log sheets and provide summary data. Act as liaison between the Imaging Department and the Medical Radiography Program; provide input on issues to enhance the educational experience. Provide academic advice for matriculating and prospective program students. Coordinate and manage the in-service program for students and staff. Under the direction of the Director, act as trainer and mentor for new hires in the department. Perform radiologic procedures on patients as assigned according to policy and radiological standards. Verify patient and procedure and provide clear and accurate instructions to patients. Verify and perform correct imaging protocol, steps, and scanner parameters for each patient. Ensure patient and staff safety for equipment used. Participate in ongoing education and training. Perform quality control on equipment and devices as required. Communicate with other staff/departments to coordinate patient care. Maintain supply stock and request replenishment as necessary. Keep all work areas clean and functional according to relevant regulatory standards. Physical Requirements Ability to transport patients (including those who are aggressive) from wheelchair or patient slide board to the examination table. Ability to move portable x-ray machine to examination site. Occasionally sitting; frequently standing, walking, and lifting 30-35 lbs. Ability to wear protective lead aprons and lead gloves during examinations. Requires manual dexterity to operate radiology equipment. Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform examinations, observe patients, read monitors and documents, and hear equipment alarms. Skills & Abilities Interpersonal skills needed to work with and support faculty, staff, and students. Teaching abilities in clinical settings. Knowledge of radiographic equipment, examinations, and procedures that require contrast agents. Knowledge of patient transfers and positioning techniques.
