Lab Technician

This full-time Lab Technician role focuses on hands-on bench work in a clean, well-organized laboratory environment. You will prepare panels, weigh paint and colorants, shake samples, perform draw downs, and carry out basic laboratory tests such as viscosity and pH measurements. This position offers valuable low-level research and development exposure and is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to enter an associate-level role or re-enter the lab environment after time away.

Responsibilities

• Work full time at the lab bench, performing hands-on testing and preparation activities.
• Prepare panels and samples for testing, ensuring each sample meets required specifications.
• Weigh paint, colorants, and other materials with precision using scales and measurement devices.
• Shake samples and perform draw downs to evaluate product characteristics and appearance.
• Conduct basic laboratory tests, including viscosity and pH measurements, following established procedures.
• Perform repetitive product testing to benchmark product compatibility within the marketplace.
• Carry out quality testing activities, including draw downs and other routine lab evaluations.
• Accurately record and enter test results and related data into the computer system.
• Follow laboratory protocols to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and organization at the lab bench.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow safety procedures at all times.
• Collaborate with team members in adjacent labs while managing individual assignments.

Essential Skills

• Interest in formulation, sample preparation, and basic chemistry or biology.
• Desire to gain low-level research and development experience in an industrial or architectural coatings environment.
• Motivation to grow into an associate-level laboratory role and pursue advancement opportunities.
• Comfort returning to a lab environment for those who have been out of the lab for a period of time.

Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Holland, IL.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
