Security Corrections Technician Location: Renton, WA, United States Category: Technician - Physical Security Systems Description Position Purpose As a LONG Security Corrections Technician, you will install, service, program, maintain, and troubleshoot integrated security systems within correctional and detention facilities. Correctional facilities require a technician who understands the operational impact of cameras, door control, intercom, access control, duress, paging, PLC/HMI, network infrastructure, and related security systems that directly support staff safety, inmate movement, facility lockdowns, and daily operations. This position requires strong technical judgment, attention to detail, personal accountability, and the ability to work safely and professionally in secure environments where procedures, communication, and system reliability are critical. Pay Range Licensed EL06 General Foreperson: $62.95 per hr. Licensed EL06 Foreperson: $57.71 per hr. Licensed EL06: $52.46 per hr. All benefits provided by IBEW Union scales is subject to change. Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties or tasks assigned as required. The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to: Install, service, program, maintain, and troubleshoot correctional security systems, including CCTV/VMS, access control, PLC/HMI door control, intercom, paging, duress, perimeter detection, network switches, fiber/copper data infrastructure, UPS/power equipment, relay logic, and related system integrations. Perform troubleshooting with an understanding of correctional operational impacts, including controlled doors, interlocks, sally ports, mantraps, staff control stations, inmate movement, lockdown functions, life-safety interfaces, and fail-secure/fail-safe operation. Coordinate testing, cutovers, outages, and maintenance activities with facility staff to avoid disruption to counts, movement, security posts, housing units, or facility operations. Follow facility rules, escort requirements, tool control procedures, contraband restrictions, change management practices, and approved work processes while working in secure environments. Accurately document service activity, system changes, programming updates, testing results, redlines, as-built conditions, material usage, and daily time entries through the applicable company systems. Communicate professionally with facility staff, customers, project teams, subcontractors, and internal LONG personnel regarding technical issues, work status, system impacts, and recommended corrective actions. Troubleshoot IP-based security networks, servers, workstations, field devices, edge devices, switches, cabling, power supplies, relays, and control components to maintain reliable system performance. Support project installations, service calls, warranty work, small upgrades, emergency repairs, and after-hours response as required. Assist with developing small project scopes, material lists, time estimates, service recommendations, and upgrade options when requested. Attend construction meetings, coordination meetings, site walks, and facility planning discussions as required. Maintain accountability for company tools, customer equipment, devices, cabling, and materials to prevent loss, damage, or introduction of security risks into correctional facilities. Participate in ongoing training to maintain and expand knowledge of correctional security systems, PLC/HMI control systems, LAN/WAN networking, software platforms, and facility-specific operating requirements. On-call work and out-of-state travel may be required. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Three or more years of related experience in electronic security systems, correctional security systems, industrial controls, networked security platforms, low-voltage systems, or complex integrated systems preferred; equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and field experience may be considered. Strong working knowledge of electronic principles, including AC/DC theory, Ohm's Law, meter usage, relay logic, power supplies, grounding, signal troubleshooting, and low-voltage field wiring. Experience with access control, CCTV/VMS, IP cameras, NVR/server-based recording systems, intercom, paging, duress, PLC/HMI door control, life-safety interfaces, data backbone cabling, fiber/copper infrastructure, and network switches. Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, riser diagrams, point-to-point wiring diagrams, control narratives, manuals, specifications, and as-built documentation. Ability to troubleshoot software, hardware, network, field device, cabling, and system integration issues in active operational environments. Strong judgment, patience, professionalism, and situational awareness when working inside correctional facilities, occupied secure areas, and controlled environments. Ability to follow strict procedures, communicate before taking action, avoid unauthorized changes, and understand that security system work can directly affect staff safety and facility operations. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, Bluebeam, service ticketing systems, and general digital documentation tools. Strong aptitude for hand and power tools, field installation methods, testing equipment, labeling, documentation, and clean workmanship. Capable of managing multiple tasks independently while maintaining accountability, accurate communication, and customer service. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to legally operate a company vehicle. Ability to pass required background checks, badging requirements, and facility clearance processes for work in correctional and detention environments. Preferred Qualifications Experience with correctional or detention facility security systems strongly preferred. Experience with VMS and camera platforms such as Genetec, Vicon/Valerus, Avigilon, Axis, Bosch, or similar systems. Experience with access control and credentialing platforms such as Lenel, HID, DMP, or similar systems. Experience with correctional intercom, paging, door control, and PLC/HMI platforms such as Harding DXI/DXL, GE CIMPLICITY, Omron, or similar systems. Experience with network infrastructure and switching platforms such as Cisco, Aruba, or similar systems. Relevant certifications in security systems, networking, fiber/copper cabling, manufacturer platforms, or related technical disciplines preferred. Physical Requirements This work may involve standing for extended periods, climbing ladders or scaffolds, and working in tight spaces. Environment Work is performed in active correctional, detention, government, commercial, and construction environments, including secure areas, occupied facilities, control rooms, equipment rooms, rooftops, exterior areas, and confined or restricted spaces. Work may require coordination with facility staff, escorts, security posts, restricted movement schedules, inmate counts, lockdown procedures, and facility-specific rules. Work may be performed during normal business hours, after hours, weekends, emergency response periods, or scheduled outages depending on facility requirements. Hazards General construction worksite hazards, including ladders, lifts, elevated work areas, power tools, exposed cabling, electrical equipment, and active construction zones. Secure facility hazards, including restricted movement, controlled doors, occupied housing or operational areas, contraband control requirements, and the need to follow facility safety and security procedures at all times. Possible driving in inclement weather conditions and travel to remote or out-of-state project locations.
