Medical Laboratory Scientist (Blood Bank) - NIH

Benefits Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefit package Optional health, vision, and dental plans Paid leave, paid federal holidays, and 401K plan Access to NIH’s unparalleled resources and niche scientific initiatives Primary Responsibilities Operate, calibrate, or maintain equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis, such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, or computer-controlled analyzers Perform component manufacturing duties i.e. prepare blood components such as frozen plasma, cryoprecipitate, leuko-reduced RBC, buffy coats from whole blood collections and pathogen reduced platelets Perform lot release and labeling for blood components Perform laboratory testing pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases in accordance with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements Evaluate blood transfusion orders for appropriateness based on screening criteria Communicate with nurses and physicians to clarify questionable transfusion or testing orders Perform compatibility crossmatch testing of donor and patient-recipient samples using automated and manual methods Independently resolve routine RBC blood group antibody problems Perform moderately complex testing to resolve complex RBC blood group antibody problems in consultation with technical specialist Requirements Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory training program in laboratory science Minimum three (3) years of blood bank bank experience in laboratory environment is preferred #J-18808-Ljbffr Kelly
