School Bus Driver

Position Title: School Bus Driver Terms of Employment: School Year. Benefit-eligible. Position Classification: Non-Union/At-will FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Valid Vermont Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements, or ability to obtain and maintain required credentials (must be 21+ in accordance with State of VT requirements). Ability to pass a criminal background check and DOT medical exam and drug test as required by law Knowledge of safe school bus operation and student transportation practices. Ability to maintain a safe environment and manage student behavior. Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Clean driving record (no traffic citations in last 5 years) Ability to carry out an assigned route on time 2+ years working with children preferred Regular and punctual attendance Reports to: Transportation Coordinator Supervises:n/a Evaluation: In accordance with the employee handbook for non-union staff Position Summary: The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school, school-sponsored activities, and other authorized destinations. The School Bus Driver operates district vehicles in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and district policies while promoting a safe, positive, and respectful environment for students. Performance Responsibilities: -Safely transport students to and from school, field trips, athletic events, and other approved activities. -Follow assigned routes and schedules and ensure students are safely loaded, transported, and unloaded and that appropriate permission is on file for alternate drop off locations as appropriate -Monitor student behavior and enforce district transportation rules. -Assist students with boarding, exiting, and other transportation needs as appropriate. -Report student discipline, safety, and transportation concerns to the appropriate administrator in a timely manner. -Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns. -Maintain assigned buses in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.. -Comply with all applicable transportation laws, regulations, and district procedures. -Participate in required training, safety drills and attend monthly safety meetings -Respond appropriately to emergencies, accidents, and student health concerns, completing accident/incident reports as needed. -Maintain all required licenses, endorsements, certifications, and medical qualifications. -Establish positive working relationships with students, families, staff, and community members. -Maintain confidentiality of student and district information Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to safely operate a school bus for extended periods, including the ability to drive, hear, talk and see, sit for extended periods of time, enter and exit the vehicle, assist students and perform emergency evacuations. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally as needed. Work is performed primarily in a school bus and outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather, traffic, and road conditions.
