TRIO Math Specialist (Education Support Spec II)

Role Overview TRIO Math Specialist (Education Support Spec II) at Laurel Ridge Community College, responsible for providing tutoring and workshops to TRIO Student Support Program participants at the Middletown campus. Part‑time, no more than 29 hours per week, with hours assigned for walk‑in, appointment, and online tutoring. Responsibilities Provide quality scheduled one‑to‑one, walk‑in or appointment‑based tutoring services to TRIO students. Design, develop, facilitate and document workshops aligned with program grant objectives and student needs; document attendance on the program platform. Integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize students’ academic progress. Maintain accurate records of individual and group tutoring sessions. Give consistent feedback to students on progress; exhibit positive regard for students per the mission and core values of Laurel Ridge Community College. Uphold high levels of professionalism and student confidentiality. Collaborate with the TRIO advisor, front‑office staff, and program leadership to support student services and workflow efficiency. Qualifications Currently enrolled as a student at Laurel Ridge Community College (2nd year) or hold an associate’s or higher degree and be at least a sophomore per TRIO Grant requirements. Demonstrated proficiency (minimum 3.0 GPA) in relevant subject areas, including college level algebra, calculus, and statistics. Minimum one year of experience providing individualized academic support to students with diverse learning styles. Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts clearly and facilitate tutoring sessions. Proficiency in educational technology tools and platforms (Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard, etc.) to enhance tutoring sessions. Ability to maintain accurate tutoring session records and provide regular progress reports to Project Advisors and program administrators. Collaboration with Project Advisors to align tutoring sessions with overall student support strategies. Cultural sensitivity and understanding of SSS‑eligible students’ diverse backgrounds. Compensation & Benefits The hourly pay range for this position is $16.26–$21.32, commensurate with education, credentials, and/or experience. The position is part‑time and not eligible for health or leave benefits but may offer educational benefits through professional development and educational assistance policies. Funding is available through August 31, 2026; may be revoked at any time. Special Assignments & Travel May be required to perform other duties as assigned and to assist the agency or state government in an emergency declaration. Travel may be required to sites/campuses or training as necessary within the college service region.
