They are responsible for coordinating curriculum meetings and further program development in collaboration with administration and with staff across the District. The incumbent is under the guidance of and at the direction of designated administration. Any recommendations, suggestions, or proposed action will be submitted to the K-12 curriculum and instructional panel. Responsibilities Lead the continuous development, revision, and evaluation of curriculum and assessment. Carry out responsibilities with adherence to all applicable Board policies. Assume shared responsibility with the curriculum panel for the development, revisions, and constant evaluation of curriculum programs and assessments that may result in proposed changes based on current data and educational best practices and/or research. Maintain comprehensive expertise in district-approved instructional resources, including textbooks, digital software, curricula, and pedagogical techniques, as well as specialized equipment and assessment tools required for program success. Collaborate with committees, departments, or specific grade levels to recommend curricular enhancements, improvements, and strategic changes. Prepare and oversee the yearly budgets for the content area. Oversee departmental assets by managing orders, maintaining accurate inventories, and ensuring secure distribution of equipment and teaching aids. Provide guidance and direction to new teachers. Assist teachers in the implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. Be responsible for professional development training related to curriculum analysis and development, instructional strategies, assessment practices, and materials selection. Collaborate with the curriculum panel to propose evidence-based revisions while maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the district’s K-12 instructional landscape. Provide instructional mentorship to staff upon request, supporting teacher growth through collaborative lesson planning and classroom observations. Assist in the hiring process by potentially interviewing applicants and observing demonstration lessons when deemed appropriate by administration. Conduct curriculum meetings in accordance with the contract. Plan professional development offerings for the summer and as needed throughout the school year. Attend leadership meetings as planned by administration. Work extended hours and additional 20 days beyond the teacher's work year. The curriculum leader's summer responsibilities are: Plan and supervise summer workshops and professional development offerings, including tracking and submitting hours for pay, flex-time, and/or Act 48 credit. Evaluate, organize, and distribute curriculum materials. Evaluate the instructional program and oversee all updates to the District’s curriculum management system within the designated area of oversight. Plan and organize the plans for the next school year. Complete any tasks as assigned by administration. Qualifications Bachelor's degree with appropriate teaching certification in the identified content area. Master’s degree in education (preferred). A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in Upper St. Clair School District and the respective content area.
