Assistant Teacher

Location : Dorchester, MA Hours/week : 40 hours per week Exemption : Non‑exempt Pay Range : $15.00 – $23.00 per hour (starting pay varies depending on experience and qualifications). Duties & Responsibilities Assist Classroom Teacher with implementing the daily curriculum. Collaborate and communicate with parents, teachers, administration, and other employees at The Salvation Army. Foster a nurturing atmosphere and use a method of positive discipline. Ensure all aspects of the classroom run smoothly, including transitions, routines, nap time, health and safety procedures, etc. Keep the classroom clean, stock materials, and lock the door at the end of each day. Assist the Children’s Learning Center Administration and Salvation Army staff in ensuring the center continues to provide a high‑quality program to the families we serve. Voice suggestions and needs for enhancing classroom work with the teacher and Director. Pursue professional development activities, follow EEC regulations, center policy, and Salvation Army policies. Attend and participate in staff meetings and other meetings that arise. Perform all duties in compliance with The Salvation Army’s policies and regulations governing staff and client relationships, hours of work, holidays, and other integral matters. Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of the position. Qualifications Education Requirements : 18 years of age with a High School diploma or GED is required. Must be a team player. Must be able to communicate effectively in English, written and verbal. Physical Requirements Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or occasional continuous basis. Grasp, push, pull objects such as reference materials, files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to load and change settings, devices, fixtures on various equipment used in and around a classroom environment. Operate telephone and other electronic communication devices. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Ability to be creative, original, intuitive, and perceptive. Ability to think logically and critically. Ability to envision a project from beginning to end. Ability to solve complex problems, make appropriate judgments and decisions. Ability to help classroom teacher.
