Heavy Truck Mechanic

Job Description:

Veit is seeking a Diesel Technician to complete repairs and preventive maintenance on heavy duty trucks and trailers. This person will also assist in heavy equipment repairs.

A Day In The Life

• Performs preventive maintenance to trucks and trailers.
• Diagnoses engine mechanical and fuel systems issues on trucks including engines, emissions, drive train components, hydraulic systems, air brake, and 12 volt electrical systems.
• Uses different tools, such as engine lathes, boring machines, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments.
• Utilizes computer software to diagnose issues with electronic engines on trucks.
• Utilizes tools for repair and maintenance of hydraulic systems.
• Fabricates and repairs equipment using welding equipment.
• Involved with maintaining a clean and safe shop environment.
• Keeps supervisor informed of known actions, written or verbal, which may affect the ability to successfully perform assignments or adversely affect Company operations.
• Other projects or duties as assigned by management, including performing repairs on heavy equipment

What You'll Need

• Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of heavy-duty truck components.
• Experience using diagnostic software and welding experience.
• Ability to adhere to all safety rules, policies, and regulations, and the ability to maintain a safe work environment.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with changing priorities and situations.
• Must be able to effectively communicate with coworkers and management, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently, assuring repair decisions are made utilizing appropriate experience and tasks are completed and in a timely manner.
• Must be willing to join the union. (Operating Engineers, Local 139)
• Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain.

Employee frequently works alone and with others. Employee is frequently exposed to moving machinery, odors, and dust. Often exposed to environment conditions, loud noises, and variable weather including rain, snow, wind, cold, and heat. Most often in a typical shop environment.

Additional Job Description:

The current starting rate for this position is union based depending on experience; wages will start at $46.22 for a journeyman level applicant.On top of starting wage will be union based insurance and pension.
