Transportation Operations Technician II - Temporary

Overview The Agency of Transportation is seeking temporary Transportation Operations Technicians in Chester. This position will be responsible for various tasks related to highway maintenance, such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. It is anticipated that these positions will work 40 hours per week for approximately six months. Who May Apply Job Title: Transportation Operations Technician II - Temporary (Job Requisition #54657). This position is open to all State employees and external applicants. It is a temporary position; temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full‑time. Environmental Factors Ability to withstand exposure to extreme outdoor weather. Availability for overtime during heavy snowfall or emergencies. Must be reachable by phone and available to report outside normal schedule. May be exposed to blood or airborne pathogens; hazards present when working near heavy equipment or moving traffic. Random drug and alcohol testing is required. Minimum Qualifications One (1) year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor, including either one season of operating a snowplow with wings or six (6) months of operating medium or heavy equipment (graders, excavators, backhoes). OR upon successful completion of original probation as a Transportation Operations Technician I and possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement. Special Requirements A Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required. Must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation. Possession of a Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement is required within the first six months of employment. Must complete all VTTC required coursework within one (1) year or be enrolled. CDL Application Requirements In accordance with federal regulation, any person applying for employment as an operator of a commercial motor vehicle must provide detailed employment information for the past 10 years.
