Assistant Controller

Our local client is seeking a talented Assistant Controller. This role supports the Controller and project managers with a variety of accounting tasks, including WIP, project cost, budgeting, forecasting, monthly close, GL reconciliation, AP and AR. Successful Assistant Controller candidates will possess construction industry experience/exposure and live in Minnesota. Key Responsibilities: Support AP, AR, work-in-progress, project accounting and other areas as needed. Monthly Close / Reporting: Ensure general ledgers are reconciled accurately and monthly reporting completed in a timely manner. Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies. Oversee and manage Profit and Loss statements, including budget preparation, forecasting and reforecasting as appropriate. Complete variance analysis, and profitability assessments. Accounts Management: Regular journal entries creation and review. General ledger functions to ensure timely and accurate processing. Budgeting & Forecasting: Communicate with the Controller and Project Managers to develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial plans for ongoing and upcoming projects. Continuous Process Improvement: Discover, communicate and implement process improvements as needed to enhance efficiencies. Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related business field. Minimum of 5 years of related accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry, but candidates who audit the construction industry will also be considered. Construction industry accounting experience. Expertise in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLookups. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to interview and work on-site in the Twin Cities.
