Quality TechnicianThe Quality Technician performs a wide range of laboratory analyses, inspections, and tests on raw materials, packaging materials, samples, and finished products to ensure they meet internal quality standards, customer expectations, and regulatory requirements. This role focuses on both qualitative and quantitative assays, supports the maintenance and certification of test instruments, and contributes to continuous improvement by investigating non-conformances and preparing quality reports. The position sits within a technician support career stream, providing technical support to production and operations while working with moderate autonomy and collaborating closely with internal teams.ResponsibilitiesPerform analyses, inspections, and tests on raw materials, packaging materials, in-process samples, and finished products to verify conformance to quality standards, customer requirements, regulatory expectations, and defined tolerance specifications for chemical and physical properties.Conduct a variety of qualitative tests and qualitative assays on samples to support product release, process monitoring, and validation activities.Perform quantitative assays on samples and finished products, ensuring accurate measurement, documentation, and interpretation of results.Aid in the maintenance, calibration, and certification of test instruments and laboratory apparatus to ensure they remain compliant and reliable for routine testing.Carry out required inspections, checks, analyses, and documentation of laboratory studies in accordance with established procedures and good documentation practices.Prepare, monitor, and analyze quality statistics and reports to identify trends, support decision-making, and communicate quality performance.Review production records and documentation to confirm adherence to procedures, specifications, and quality system requirements.Conduct non-conformance tests on manufactured, packaged, or tested products to determine the nature and extent of deviations from established standards.Apply problem-solving tools and methodologies to investigate and determine root causes of non-conformances, and propose corrective and preventive actions for supervisor review.Use schematics, diagrams, written procedures, and verbal instructions to perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic or mechanical components, equipment, or systems as needed.Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data using established formulas and procedures, and perform detailed mathematical calculations to support test results and reports.Run minor projects, including planning and performing tests, interpreting data, and developing clear, concise reports for internal stakeholders.Work under limited supervision as a seasoned individual contributor, exercising sound judgment on non-routine technical tasks and escalating issues appropriately.Communicate with internal contacts to obtain and provide technical information on matters of moderate importance to the job area.Provide guidance, coaching, and training to other employees within the job area, supporting skill development and consistent application of quality procedures.Work comfortably with sheep and human blood samples, following all applicable safety and handling procedures.Use pipettes and other laboratory equipment accurately and consistently to perform assays and sample preparation.Support continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting and/or making improvements to optimize work processes within the laboratory and related operations.Essential SkillsBachelor's degree (BA/BS) in biology, chemistry, microbiology, or a related scientific field, or an associate degree combined with approximately 3–5 years of relevant technical experience.At least 3 years of relevant technical experience in a laboratory, quality, or analytical testing environment, including practical work and/or applicable training, education, or certification.Strong knowledge of quality control principles, including performing assays, analytical testing, qualitative tests, and testing of quantitative assays.Experience conducting non-conformance tests and investigating root causes of non-conformances using structured problem-solving tools and methodologies.Hands-on experience working with pipettes and standard laboratory equipment for sample preparation and testing.Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP) in a regulated environment.Ability to use Microsoft Office applications to compile data, prepare reports, and communicate findings.Complete and broad knowledge of systems, techniques, tools, and procedures related to laboratory testing and quality assurance, typically obtained through prior work experience and training.Comfort and capability working with sheep and human blood samples in accordance with safety protocols.Strong verbal and written communication skills for documenting results, writing reports, and collaborating with internal teams.Ability to perform detailed mathematical calculations and conversions between English and metric measurement systems.Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also operating autonomously once trained.Additional Skills & QualificationsPrevious experience in the medical device industry, particularly in a regulated laboratory or manufacturing environment.Experience with CLIA and CAP regulatory frameworks and requirements for laboratory testing.Familiarity with Minitab or similar statistical analysis software for evaluating quality data and trends.Experience applying GMP and GDP in daily work, including accurate recordkeeping and adherence to written procedures.Proficiency with both English and metric measuring systems, including the ability to perform mathematical conversions between them.Demonstrated ability to suggest and implement improvements to optimize work processes and enhance laboratory efficiency.Experience providing guidance, coaching, or training to colleagues in a technical or laboratory setting.Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work well on cross-functional teams.Comfort working in cold environments such as refrigerators when retrieving samples.Broad understanding of quality systems and regulatory expectations relevant to laboratory operations and product testing.Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a laboratory setting, where the Quality Technician works with a variety of biological samples, including sheep and human blood, as well as raw materials, packaging materials, and finished products. The work involves regular use of laboratory instruments, pipettes, and testing equipment, and may require occasional entry into refrigerated areas to retrieve samples. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Once fully trained, the technician operates with a high degree of autonomy while still collaborating closely with internal teams. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
