General Job Summary: The Clinical Nursing Instructor is a part-time faculty member who functions within the mission, philosophy, and procedures of United University of Nursing. The Clinical Nursing Instructor will facilitate student learning in the clinical environment for the United University of Nursing (UUN), under the direction of the Director of Nursing. This position will require 12-14 hours per week for 10-16 weeks per semester. Schedule will be determined by clinical site availability. Essential Responsibilities: Orient students to the healthcare facility, ensuring they know where to find necessary equipment, the Policy and Procedure Manual, location of emergency resources, and how to document in the electronic health record. Facilitates student learning by assigning them to care for patients who align with course, lab, and clinical objectives and are within the student’s scope of knowledge and ability. Promotes a positive learning environment emphasizing patient/student safety and compliance that meets national accrediting agency standards. Supports students by giving positive feedback and opportunities for learning and remediation with a learner-centered approach. Provides students with a recommended plan for academic improvement as needed and follows up to determine if student performance improves. Exhibits professional behavior and communication that serves as a positive role model for students. Works collaboratively with nurse managers, staff nurses, and other representatives of the clinical units assigned. Completes weekly clinical evaluations with systematic observations, and timely objective/subjective feedback to the student according to United University of Nursing (UUN) and hospital standards. Prepares and submits incident reports related to student exposures according to facility and UUN policies. Complies with all applicable University, state and federal rules and regulations. Maintains confidentiality of information (including, but not limited to, student and employee personal information, student grades, etc.), both during and after employment with the University. Meets regularly with UUN instructors to maintain productive two-way communication between the Program and the hospital/medical facility. Provides feedback to the appropriate semester instructors and Director of Nursing about current department/hospital policies or changes in practice in the nursing field. Maintains current up-to-date knowledge and skills through continuing education and professional development opportunities. Attends orientation for the clinical sites assigned and maintains competencies and compliance requirements of the clinical sites assigned. Demonstrates flexibility in the event that a site cancels a clinical day and other arrangements are needed. Performs supervisory and other duties as assigned by the Dean or other designee. Attendance at any UUN event for the purpose of marketing, recruitment or community engagement will be on a voluntary basis. Essential Qualifications Experience and Education/Training Requirements (the following qualifications are required pursuant to the California Code of Regulations Title 16, § 1425(a) A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing, education, or administration. One (1) years’ continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience in direct patient care as a registered nurse within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he or she is assigned. Eligible for approval as an instructor by the California State Board of Nursing. Licensure/Certifications Must have unencumbered, current California Registered Nurse license.
