*Full Time Evenings* At Houston Methodist, the Echo Sonographer II position requires an experienced and fully competent sonographer who performs a variety of routine to complex echocardiograms including but not limited to transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) with color, spectral Doppler, 2-D imaging, transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE), plain stress echocardiogram or dobutamine stress echocardiogram, TTE with bubbles, TTE with contrast and advanced TTE such as 3D imaging, for both inpatient and outpatient studies. The position also supports pharmacologic and exercise stress procedures, Holter testing, EKG and/or cardiac event monitoring, and advanced procedures such as TAVR. The Echo Sonographer II locates, evaluates and records pertinent anatomical, pathological and functional data using various ultrasound systems, transmits exams to DICOM storage applications, processes preliminary technical data, and communicates significant findings to the attending reading physician. They actively participate in unit-based or system quality and compliance initiatives and are required to be on call. FLSA Status Non-exempt Qualifications Education Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below. Experience Three years’ experience as a Cardiac/Echo Sonographer; may consider Houston Methodist Echo Sonographer with two years’ experience, one of which is as an Echo Sonographer with the institution. Licenses and Certifications BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association Must have one of the following certifications: RDCS, RDCS-AE, RVT, RCS, or RVS. Skills and Abilities Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills and competency assessments. Possesses basic computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems including Hospital/Radiology/Cardiology Information Systems and office software to maintain patient and exam documents. Exhibits strong interpersonal and teamwork skills with all levels of the healthcare team and ensures delivery of excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers. Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision, organizes workflow and actively participates in problem solving. Possesses sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security. Effectively communicates with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles. Essential Functions People Essential Functions Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team‑focused work unit that actively helps one another to achieve optimal department results. Collaborates with all members of the patient care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patient care information and data in a comprehensive manner. Assists with training new staff members and mentoring clinical students to build confidence in skills, knowledge and abilities. Service Essential Functions Performs cardiac echo studies, ensuring precise and accurate data is transmitted for physician completion. Provides additional support for pharmacologic and exercise stress procedures, Holter testing, EKG and/or cardiac event monitoring, and advanced procedures when needed (e.g., TAVR). Provides care for the physical needs of patients during cardiac echo studies. Educates patients who require inpatient or outpatient echo exams by explaining the purpose and techniques used, and proactively identifies issues and proposes solutions for optimum outcomes. Provides direct assistance to physicians and other health care team members during cardiac echo studies, including patient preparation before procedures and performing proper sterile techniques as indicated in support of the procedure. Quality/Safety Essential Functions Identifies and accurately recognizes cardiac structures including calculation of valve area, pressure gradients and ejection fraction. Confirms the quality of the study is concise and clear to optimize best images for the patient care team and interpreting physician. Identifies abnormal findings and takes corrective action or communicates immediately, when appropriate, to proper personnel for the best results. Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures, regularly practices aseptic techniques, and ensures compliance with infection control procedures and hospital safety standards, practices and policies. Ensures all patient care equipment has undergone quality control and is in safe working order prior to use; reports any malfunctions to management and regularly practices preventive maintenance procedures; calls for service if needed. Assists with implementation and education of departmental safety initiatives and standards of practice. Finance Essential Functions Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures and enters charges at the time service is delivered, when applicable. Uses resources efficiently; minimizes waste of supplies. Self‑motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks.
