Virnig Manufacturing is a leading manufacturer of high-quality skid steer attachments with over 35 years of industry experience. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Laser Operator to support our operations in Fort Madison, Iowa.

As a Laser Operator you will be responsible for setting up, operating, maintaining, and cleaning laser machines to cut parts that meet or exceed our quality standards. This position plays a key role in ensuring parts are produced safely, efficiently, and accurately, with a strong emphasis on communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Compensation:

• Starting Wage- $25.50/hour
• Hours- Monday- Thursday 5a-330p with the ability to work Friday's as needed

Key Responsibilities:

• Load and unload steel onto and off laser machines.
• Sort and organize parts based on internal customer needs.
• Inspect and clean laser-cut products to ensure they meet quality standards.
• Maintain responsibility for quality control of produced parts, making necessary machine adjustments to meet specifications.
• Reject and report products that do not meet quality expectations.
• Promptly notify lead or appropriate personnel of safety or quality concerns.
• Assist with prototype attachments and special projects.
• Perform daily and weekly maintenance on laser equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Participate in ergonomic practices designed for this role.
• Maintain open and respectful communication with coworkers and leadership.
• Continuously seek improvement in skills and work practices.
• Assist in other areas of production as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Work overtime as needed.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent; basic math skills required.
• 1 year of manufacturing or mechanical experience required.
• Previous forklift and hoist experience required.

Skills:

• Proficient in operating CNC laser cutting machines.
• Ability to operate pneumatic and hand tools such as sanders, grinders, and drills.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong understanding of machine functions and material behavior.
• Able to identify, analyze, and resolve production or equipment issues quickly.
• High level of accuracy in inspecting and producing parts.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workload to meet production goals.
• Works effectively with coworkers, leads, and other departments.
• Clear and professional in both verbal and written communication.
• Knowledge and practice of workplace safety procedures.
• Able to adjust to shifting priorities, work on special projects, and take on new tasks as needed.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Frequent bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, and reaching required throughout the shift.
• Regular exposure to repetitive motions involving hands, wrists, arms, and shoulders.
• Ability to stand for extended periods on concrete floors.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, helmet, ear plugs, and safety glasses.
