Speech-Language Pathologist

Henry Ford Home Health Care is a comprehensive network of home health products and services that focuses on the complex needs of patients and caregivers. Available programs include chronic care management, joint replacement care, specialty infusion and transplant care, wound, ostomy and continence nursing, and palliative care to name a few. Henry Ford Home Health Care's services are provided by qualified registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified wound, ostomy and continence nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech - language pathologists, medical social workers, dietitians, and home health aides.

Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) with certification by the American SpeechLanguage-Hearing Association (ASHA) provide clinical services to individuals with adult and pediatric speech, language cognitive, voice and swallowing disorders. Services include diagnosis, evaluation, therapy, treatment and follow-up. All clinical fellows in Speech-Language Pathology are supervised by ASHA certified SLP's.

Principal duties and responsibilities include:

• Providing clinical speech-language pathology services to HFHS patients including:
• Consultation with patients, family, and HFHS staff about communication and swallowing disorders;
• Diagnosing speech, language or swallowing disorders and evaluating patient's condition and prognosis;
• Developing treatment/therapy programs for patients;
• Scheduling and conducting patient follow-up visits.
• Operating clinical equipment to measure speech production characteristics during patient evaluations and treatment.
• Performing endoscopic assessment of vocal fold vibratory function and swallowing function.
• Interacting with dietary personnel in developing nutritional menus and/or eating programs for patients with limited swallowing abilities.
• Prescribing appropriate communication technology after cancer or laryngeal surgery. Teaching patient to utilize technology and effectively develop their communication skills.
• Participating in all phases of departmental education and research programs including program development and clinical fellow orientation and instruction.
• Supervising the activities of departmental graduate students and clinical fellows including work scheduling, motivation, performance appraisal, and day-to-day work duties.
• Representing the Institution at community, regional and national conferences. Educating local community and social organizations on programs available at HFHS.
• Performing other related duties as assigned or requested.

Education/experience required:

• Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited graduate program;
• Successful completion of the National Praxis Examination;
• Successful completion of the Clinical Fellowship Year.
• One year of experience in a clinical setting required.

Licensures and certifications required:

• The State of Michigan license; Certificate of Clinical Competence by ASHA
