Medical Laboratory Scientist II (Blood Bank / Transfusion Medicine) Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent Schedule: 4 Days/Week, 10-Hour Shifts (40 Hours/Week) Pay Range: $26.85 – $45.04 per Hour Sign-On Bonus: $10,000 Commitment Incentive (Paid in 4 Installments Over 2 Years) Key Responsibilities: Perform complex blood bank and transfusion medicine testing with a high degree of accuracy. Conduct: Type & Screen testing Antibody Identification Direct Antiglobulin Testing (DAT) Eluate testing Phenotyping Antigen Typing Perform blood product modifications, including: Irradiation Syringe aliquots Support emergency transfusion operations, including: Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP) Emergency Release procedures Troubleshoot instrumentation, specimen issues, test discrepancies, and workflow challenges. Perform quality control and proficiency testing activities. Monitor laboratory accuracy, precision, and regulatory compliance. Prepare reagents, controls, standards, and testing materials. Maintain inventory and laboratory supplies. Serve as a technical resource for laboratory staff. Train and mentor new employees and students. Participate in special projects, quality initiatives, and departmental improvement efforts. Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, and institutional policies and procedures. Required Qualifications: Option 1 Associate Degree in: Clinical Laboratory Science Medical Laboratory Technology Chemical Science Biological Science MLT (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) certification Minimum 2 years of relevant laboratory experience Option 2 Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Science or Biological Science ASCP categorical certification in the specialty area Minimum 2 years of relevant laboratory experience Option 3 Bachelor's Degree in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science
