Class A CDL Line Haul Mileage Driver

Overview Old Dominion Freight Line is seeking a dedicated Line Haul Driver to join our OD Family Culture. As a Line Haul Driver, you will operate various tractor‑trailer combinations over long distances, delivering freight with precision and reliability. The role offers a 5‑day workweek with most nights at home and an average annual pay of $107,000, plus a tuition reimbursement program for recent truck‑school graduates. Job Summary Line Haul Drivers operate tractor‑trailer combinations over long distances between customer service centers and customer facilities or work sites outside of the service center’s geographic area. They sort, handle, load, and/or unload freight at company and customer locations. Primary Responsibilities Operate vehicle safely within DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection, maintenance, and hazardous materials transportation. Meet or exceed the medical standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation and pass drug and alcohol tests. Perform pre‑trip inspections of vehicles. Ensure freight loaded onto the trailer is stable and secure, adjusting load securement and distribution as needed. Use tablets or phones to record delivery information and navigate routes. Unsecure freight for delivery and unload freight at drop‑off locations using a hand truck. Be available for around‑the‑clock shifts to accommodate freight movements, and be able to be away from home for extended periods. Qualifications Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Minimum 12 months previous tractor‑trailer driving experience or graduation from a state‑certified and licensed truck‑driving school. Must possess a valid ClassA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with double/triple trailers, tanker, and hazardous material endorsements. Knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection, and maintenance. Ability to operate hand‑held mini‑computer and tablet devices. Ability to handle receipts, read maps, road signs, and maintain logs. Pass orientation and training program by an Old Dominion qualified driver trainer. Meet or exceed medical standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation and pass drug and alcohol tests. Physical Demands Must sit alert while driving up to 11 hours. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, crank, and perform other manual tasks. Required to move, lift, carry, and push freight ranging from lightweight items to heavy trailers. Must be able to use both hands for vehicle controls, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and safety equipment. Must be able to travel by foot or use climbing stairs and steps to access the cab. Work Environment Work may involve exposure to weather conditions, noise, and lighting variations. Employees may work with or around others while loading and unloading in enclosed trailers, vehicles, and various customer facilities. Compensation & Working Days Compensation Range: $20.15 - $38.95 per hour (rates vary by route). Average annual pay: $107,000. Working days: shift and hours determined by business needs.
