Role Description

As a Speech Language Pathologist , your primary responsibility will be to assess and treat individuals experiencing speech, language, and swallowing difficulties due to neurological conditions or surgical interventions. You will create tailored therapy plans based on the severity of each case, identify the most effective treatment methods, and establish criteria for when therapy can be concluded.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough diagnostic assessments for patients with speech, language, and swallowing disorders, including those with head and neck cancer.

  • Set treatment objectives and design therapeutic programs. Assess whether patients can continue oral intake or require alternative nutritional support. Provide training for esophageal and tracheoesophageal voice use, as well as instruction on prosthetic devices. Perform and analyze video fluorography and conduct evaluations for tracheoesophageal punctures.

  • Summarize evaluation results and prognostic information. Document progress notes and maintain medical records while responding to referrals. Keep statistical data as required by the department and determine when therapy can be appropriately discontinued based on patient progress. Coordinate follow-up care as necessary.

  • Conduct hearing screenings as needed and complete all necessary documentation for patient billing. Engage in interdepartmental rehabilitation meetings, discharge rounds, and family discussions. Deliver speech-language in-service training to nursing staff, rehabilitation teams, and medical residents as assigned. Offer mentorship and serve as a resource for graduate students in clinical practicums.

  • Stay updated on advancements in the field by reading relevant literature and attending seminars and conferences.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.

  • 1-2 years of progressively responsible experience in a related role.

  • Certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

  • Must obtain a Speech-Language Pathologist license in the District of Columbia within 90 days of hire.

Compensation

This position offers a competitive hourly wage of USD $65.00 .
