The University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapies specialist. Academic rank is open and may be on the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track, depending on clinical experience and research interests. Appointment at the level of Instructor of Pediatrics (non-tenure or clinical track) may also be considered. The successful candidate will join the Division of Hematology/Oncology to provide patient care, teaching, and consultative services.

The Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapies Program provides comprehensive care for patients with hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, brain tumors, and non-malignant conditions. The Division also has a robust Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Program in collaboration with the NCI-designated Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa. The scope of practice includes, but is not limited to, multi-institutional clinical trials, CAR-T and other cellular therapies, gene therapy, and additional innovative clinical protocols. The Division is actively engaged in cutting-edge research supported by the NIH and other funding agencies.

The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is one of the nation’s top medical schools. It is ranked 44th in research by U.S. News & World Report. Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is ranked No. 24 in NIH funding among public pediatric departments nationwide by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research.   

The pediatrics department comprises the medical staff of University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Iowa’s only nationally ranked children’s hospital and home to the state’s only Level 4 NICU and Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at Stead Family Children’s Hospital trains 50 pediatric resident physicians.   

For its 2024-25 edition of “Best Children’s Hospitals,” U.S. News & World Report ranked Stead Family Children's Hospital in nine pediatric specialties:  Cancer, Behavioral health, Cardiology, heart, and vascular surgery, Diabetes and endocrinology, Neonatology, Nephrology,  Neurology and neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Urology.

Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent

Board certified or eligible in Pediatrics

Board certified or eligible in pediatric hematology-oncology

Completed fellowship training in Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant or Pediatric Hematology/Oncology fellowship training in a major Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant institution with 2 years experience working as a pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant physician.

Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa

Interest and/or expertise in bone marrow transplant

Experience in patient-oriented research

Teaching competence in pediatrics for medical students and residents

Evidence of scholarly activity

Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment
