Job Summary This position will assist in the evaluation and monitoring of student-athlete eligibility for competition and practice in the context of Big West Conference and NCAA eligibility criteria. Evaluate student records from other institutions to determine admission eligibility (freshman and transfer) of student-athlete applicants, and as needed to determine the applicability of transfer course work. Furthermore, this position provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts. Key Responsibilities Eligibility Compliance Evaluation and Monitoring. Assist in compliance evaluation and monitoring regarding student-athlete NCAA eligibility, including calculating progress to degree and reporting any concerns or violations pertaining to NCAA or Big West conference rules. Evaluation of Student Records for Admission Evaluate student records primarily to determine the admissions eligibility (freshman and transfer) of student-athlete applicants. Interpret and Provide Evaluation Support & Information Interpret and provide evaluation information to all students, academic staff and departments, and other institutions. Department Time Base 1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week. Duration of Appointment This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date. Classification Evaluator I Compensation Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $4,262 - $4,935 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training. CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,262 - $5,998 per month. To be eligible for full benefits, employees must be appointed at least half-time (.50 FTE) with an appointment lasting more than six months and one day. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical and regulatory knowledge to evaluate student records for both athletic eligibility and admissions, ensuring compliance with University, NCAA, Big West Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, and Golden Coast Conference requirements. They are experienced in reviewing academic records, calculating progress toward degree completion, assessing transfer coursework, determining admissibility, evaluating residency status, and awarding appropriate credit for examinations, military service, and other non-traditional learning experiences. This individual is highly proficient in student information systems, imaging software, and articulation tools, with the ability to accurately maintain student records and process eligibility determinations for student-athletes and club sports participants. In addition, the ideal candidate serves as a trusted resource for students, faculty, staff, and external institutions by interpreting and explaining transfer credit, admissions, graduation, and eligibility policies. They communicate effectively through one-on-one consultations and professional correspondence, providing clear guidance while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality. Organized and detail-oriented, they assist in maintaining policy and procedural documentation, collaborate with educational institutions to clarify academic information, and demonstrate a strong commitment to compliance by identifying and reporting potential policy violations. Their ability to navigate complex regulations, exercise sound judgment, and uphold institutional and athletic standards contributes to the integrity of the University's admissions, records, and athletics compliance functions. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a \"vision of excellence\". Education and Experience Equivalent to one year of experience related to academic records evaluation required. Experience using a student information system or database, PeopleSoft preferred. Physical Summary Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects (10 pounds or less). Additional Information CSULB is not a sponsoring agency for staff and management positions (i.e. H-1B Visas). A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSULB will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. Due to the nature of this position, current CSULB employees are subject to a criminal record check unless they have successfully completed a criminal background check through CSULB within the past 12 months.
