English Teacher

Description St. Bernard College Preparatory (SBCP), a co-educational Catholic High School owned and operated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, is now accepting applications for English Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The successful candidate must demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of the content areas and be able to engage students using a wide variety of teaching strategies. The candidate must be highly skilled at planning, organizing, and developing a curriculum to meet all learners’ needs. The candidate will also effectively collaborate with colleagues to integrate the English department goals and the school mission. Responsibilities Develops and implements a standards-aligned English Language Arts curriculum Promotes a classroom environment that is conducive to individualized and/or small-group instruction and student learning Develops standards-aligned lesson plans and instructional materials for the subject area and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction Designs learning activities to demonstrate the relevance of English Language Arts to everyday life, with a particular focus on developing habits of mind that are transferable beyond English class Conducts ongoing standards-aligned formative assessments of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs, and conducts individual and small group instruction as needed Uses standardized test scores (STAR) and/or other normed data on student learning to shift practice, if needed, to better serve the learning needs of our student Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings or by conducting research Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students and parents Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees Function as a role model by motivating students to maximize their potential while maintaining approachability Attend school events to better understand student interests and personalities outside of the regular classroom, build strong mentoring relationships with students Perform other duties and tasks as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree required Teaching credential single subject English (preferred, but not required) Effective interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with students, parents, and school personnel Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and complete them by due dates Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form Must demonstrate sensitivity towards students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with teenagers and their parents Ability to maintain files accurately, on paper and in software programs (Aeries, Canvas, Google Classroom) #J-18808-Ljbffr St. Bernard High School
