Job Overview

The Equipment Operator plays a critical role in underground utility construction by safely operating a variety of heavy machinery. This position ensures efficient project progress while maintaining safety standards and high-quality work. The operator's expertise directly impacts the success and safety of construction operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, skid steers, and skip loaders safely and efficiently in underground utility construction projects
• Perform benching, sloping, and safe digging around utilities to ensure project safety and compliance with regulations
• Conduct daily inspections and routine maintenance of equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety
• Follow project plans and specifications accurately to deliver high-quality work within established timelines
• Identify and troubleshoot equipment issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain project schedules
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to coordinate operations and ensure safety protocols are followed
• Maintain detailed records of work performed, equipment usage, and safety inspections

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience operating heavy construction equipment in utility or similar projects
• Proficiency in operating excavators, loaders, skid steers, and other relevant machinery
• Knowledge of safety standards and procedures related to underground utility construction
• Ability to perform benching and sloping techniques safely and accurately
• Strong understanding of construction plans, diagrams, and specifications
• Valid driver’s license and relevant certifications for heavy equipment operation

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in underground utility construction environments
• Certification in equipment operation or safety training programs
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and utility maps
• Strong physical stamina and ability to work in various weather conditions
• Excellent communication skills and teamwork orientation
