Lead HVAC Technician
ABM Industries
Lead Hvac Technician
ABM is seeking an experienced Lead HVAC Technician to oversee day-to-day field execution of commercial and industrial HVAC projects. This role is primarily field-based and responsible for supervising technicians and subcontractors, coordinating daily work activities, enforcing safety and quality standards, and ensuring projects are installed according to scope, schedule, and specifications.
The Lead HVAC Technician is a working leader who provides direct oversight in the field, supports project management teams, and serves as the primary on-site authority for workmanship, safety, and productivity. This position also supports the project management function with budgeted cost, contracted scope and completed execution of services on-time; it does not carry full project financial ownership or P&L responsibility but is focused on quality and execution, rather than administrative project management.

- Provide hands-on technical guidance and support to field teams
- Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for field execution issues
- Execute work in accordance with approved project plans, drawings, schedules, and specifications
- Coordinate closely with Project Managers regarding manpower needs, sequencing, and progress
- Monitor job progress and report field status, risks, and constraints to project leadership
- Assist with startup, commissioning, punch lists, and closeout activities
- Enforce ABM safety policies, OSHA requirements, and site-specific safety plans
- Conduct regular safety briefings and job hazard analyses (JHAs)
- Perform quality inspections to ensure installations meet ABM standards, manufacturer requirements, and applicable codes
- Address rework or deficiencies promptly to maintain schedule and quality
- Coordinate delivery, staging, and use of materials and equipment at job sites
- Ensure proper care and use of tools, vehicles, and company equipment
- Assist with tracking materials and reporting shortages or delays
- Represent ABM professionally on job sites and interact with customers, inspectors, and other trades as needed
- Resolve field-level issues with customers or site personnel and escalate when appropriate
- Mentor and develop technicians and lead personnel through coaching and feedback
- Submit daily or weekly field reports, time tracking, and installation documentation as required
- Support payroll accuracy by verifying hours worked
- Participate in project meetings as needed to support execution
Qualifications
- 5 plus years of hands-on experience in commercial or industrial HVAC installation
- Prior experience as a Lead Technician, Foreman, or Supervisor strongly preferred
- Experience with retrofit, replacement, and mechanical system installations
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems including RTUs, chillers, boilers, piping, and controls
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and installation documents
- Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) preferred
- Proven ability to lead field crews and subcontractors effectively
- Strong communication skills with technicians, project managers, and customers
