Description The Manager, Workforce Health & Safety reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The Manager, Workforce Health and Safetyprovides leadership and operational/program oversight of the Workforce Health and Safety team within a designated geographic region or a specified business unit(s) of Northwestern Medicine. Manager Area of Focus/Responsibilities: Supports overall Workforce Health and Safety for the system while collaborating with Senior Leaders, Regional Managers and other key stakeholders Uses an analytical framework to create, develop, measure and report on Workforce Health and Safety metrics to measure key programs and opportunities Oversees Workforce Health and Safety system, SafetyNet, and third-party programmer to ensure enhancements and or break/fixes are completed timely and on budget Identify, prioritize and execute complex system level projects to enhance the Workforce Health and Safety program. Coordinate/liaison with Occupational Health partners to collaborate on projects, improve processes, coordinate mass vaccination clinics and audit intercompany budget transfer process Provide manager oversight during integration and alignment of Workforce Health and Safety programs for acquired or merged companies Manages a team of workforce health and safety professionals who partner collaboratively with the functional areas across Northwestern Medicine in support of organizational and team objectives. Coordinates team resources for responsiveness to organizational priorities. Oversee Workforce Health and Safety policy updates Responsibilities: Manages the health, safety, and well-being initiatives of the NM Workforce in designated geographic region or business unit(s) and provides oversite on assigned systemwide programs and initiatives. Manages overall program operations that support the strategic objectives of Workforce Health and Safety. Sets explicit priorities, establishes effective action plans, and anticipates obstacles and alternatives for challenging but realistic work goals. Integrates workplace interventions that protect and advance the overall well-being of the workforce. Develops and manages processes and systems for collecting, analyzing and reporting data regarding employee injuries, illnesses, and exposures. Reviews employee injury data to prioritize initiatives and implement injury reduction strategies. Identifies root causes and risks for the workforce and works collaboratively with NM stakeholders to respond with appropriate policies, process improvements, training and mitigation strategies to ensure a safe work environment for employees, physicians, residents, students, visitors, and other campus partners. Monitor regulatory changes, trends, benchmarks and best practices and report findings and recommendations to the Program Director or Director of Workforce Health and Safety. Responds thoroughly and promptly to customer needs and actively manages customer/peer relationships. Fosters and maintains positive relationships employees, physicians and all levels of management. Assures the department’s adherence to sound financial management practices and all applicable NM financial policies, through the development of conservative budgets and regular, systematic analysis of how funds are used, for both operational activity and capital projects. Acts as a change agent to systematically drive and implement change throughout the organization in support of a ‘Fair and Just’ culture Other duties as assigned Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s degree in occupational/environmental health, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field and/or comparable experience. Seven to ten (7-10) years progressive, relevant work experience. Ability to effectively manage a team. Rigorous analytical skills and persuasive leadership skills. Proven experience organizing, planning, and executing large-scale projects from the conceptual stage through implementation. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, including group presentations Innovative thinker who can lead multidisciplinary teams to a common goal using interpersonal skills, relationship building, trust, and integrity. Knowledge of OSHA, Joint Commission, CMS and IDPH standards and other relevant regulatory health and safety codes Proven software competencies (MS Office Suite) Ability to travel to designated NM locations Preferred: Master’s degree in occupational/environmental health, Public Health, Business, or related field and/or comparable experience. Three to five (3-5) years of project management or process improvement experience Experience within a healthcare or hospital setting.
