Charge Nurse OR

Townsen is hiring a full-time days Charge Nurse OR for our Med Center ASC location! The Charge Nurse, Operating Room (OR) is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care provided at the facility. This role will be responsible for managing all services and nursing responsibilities during each shift by providing assistance and care for patients, supervising nursing staff, maintaining a safe working environment, and ensuring that all operational tasks are completed on time.

Essential functions include maintaining operational flow of surgical cases, assessing and addressing physical and emotional needs of patients, collaborating with anesthesia regarding OR operational needs and work flow, updating patient medical records with services provided, health condition and response to treatments, recognizing changes in patients' condition and responding appropriately, informing physicians of any changes in patients' progress, condition or medicinal needs, detecting any issues that could result in injuries or other difficulties for patients or staff members, addressing patient complaints in a timely fashion to ensure patient satisfaction, ensuring proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies, supervising surgical staff and delegating the shift's tasks, coordinating with physicians, coordinating daily administrative duties, including schedules, surgical staff assignments, and patient care, scheduling staff and patients to ensure full coverage to provide safe and effective patient care, ensuring proper care supplies are on hand, handling employee conflicts or concerns, mentoring and training new staff and providing support and guidance to all staff members, coordinating with doctors and administrators to communicate any protocol changes to staff, and coordinating services with other patient care units and maintaining communication.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include a high level of familiarity with safety practices and procedures, excellent leadership, organizational, written and verbal communication skills, ability to handle stress and work shifts with sound judgment and attention to detail, ability to provide guidance, instruction, and leadership to nursing and related patient care staff, knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards, ability to coordinate quality assurance programs, ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures, advanced knowledge and understanding of all protocols and procedures within specified care, ability to administer a wide range of critical care drugs, with knowledge of indications, contraindications, and side effects, experience with nursing care for Peri-Operative patients, ability to operate vital sign monitors, advanced assessment skills, thorough understanding of nursing diagnosis, IV Therapy skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office and EMR systems.

Education and experience include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, or four (4) years of experience in lieu of education, minimum of 5 years of Peri-Operative nursing experience, minimum of 2 years supervisory nursing experience, orthopedic/spine experience, current BLS and ACLS, current and unencumbered RN license in the State of Texas; license must remain active and unencumbered while employed.
