About Duke Life Flight Duke Life Flight is Duke Health’s critical care and emergency air and ground transport team, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems. The team includes paramedics, nurses, respiratory therapists, emergency medical technicians, and communications specialists who work quickly to provide compassionate care and transport services to critically ill patients of all ages. Duke Life Flight also maintains a Code Blue Response Team and supports event medicine needs. Duke Life Flight offers a $15,000 Commitment Bonus for experienced RNs (terms and conditions apply) and relocation assistance (terms and conditions apply). Responsibilities As part of a multi‑disciplinary team, you will expand your knowledge base by practicing in an evidence‑based and protocol‑driven autonomous environment. Every day provides different experiences. When not transporting, you will round on the inpatient units, conduct medical record audits, participate in continuing education, and update policies. In both neonatal/pediatric and ground transport, you will provide critical care and transport services, utilizing state‑of‑the‑art equipment and the safest modes of transport available. Experience Requirements Minimum of 3+ years pediatric/neonatal critical care experience in PICU, ICN, or NICU (5+ years preferred). Air and/or ground transport nursing experience preferred. Recent direct patient care experience within the last six months. Must possess BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications. At least one specialty certification (CFRN, CTRN) to be obtained within 2 years of hire. One current trauma course prior to hire: PHTLS, TNCC, TPATC, BTLS, or ITLS. Ability to work in a diverse, autonomous environment. If nurse is new to transport, specialty certification (TCRN, C‑NPT, or CFRN) must be completed within 2 years of hire. If transport experience within last two years, must have one of the above upon hire. TPATC/PATC certification within 18 months of hire. Qualifications 3+ years clinical nursing experience. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or higher, or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma. All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree must complete the program within seven years of start date. Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse or compact RN licensure required. Physical Requirements Not greater than 230 lbs. in full uniform. Not greater than 6' 4" in height. Shifts Rotating shifts (days and nights) at Duke University Hospital (Durham). 3 to 12 hour shifts per week.
