Expanded Duties Dental Assistant (E.F.D.A)

Full-Time Position

Smile Source Atlant East/Dunson Dental Design is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Expanded Duties Dental Assistant (E.F.D.A.) to join our clinical team. Position Overview

The Expanded Duties Dental Assistant plays a critical role in the clinical efficiency and success of the practice. This position supports the dentist during procedures, performs expanded clinical duties permitted under state regulations, and helps ensure that all clinical protocols and patient care standards are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

• Assist the dentist chairside during a variety of dental procedures

• Perform expanded functions as permitted under state regulations

• Place and contour restorative materials as directed by the dentist

• Fabricate and remove temporary restorations

• Take final and preliminary impressions

• Place and remove retraction cord when appropriate

• Polish restorations and remove excess cement

• Capture high-quality radiographs

• Assist with digital scanning and intraoral imaging

• Maintain proper isolation and moisture control during procedures

Patient Care

• Prepare patients for treatment and ensure comfort throughout procedures

• Review and update medical and dental histories

• Provide post-operative instructions to patients

• Educate patients on oral hygiene and treatment recommendations

• Ensure patients have a positive and professional clinical experience

Clinical Operations

• Prepare treatment rooms and ensure all instruments and materials are ready

• Maintain strict infection control and sterilization protocols

• Assist in maintaining clinical inventory and supplies

• Properly document procedures and clinical notes in the patient record

• Support the doctor in maintaining efficient clinical flow

Qualifications

• Expanded Functions Dental Assistant certification (E.F.D.A)

• Current radiology certification

• Minimum 2+ years of dental assisting experience preferred

• Experience with digital dentistry and intraoral scanning preferred

• Strong knowledge of dental materials and procedures

• Excellent communication and patient care skills

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment

• Professional appearance and demeanor
