• Department: Neuro Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU)
• 29 Beds
• Average Daily Census: 29 Patients
• Minimum Experience Required: 2 Years Adult ICU Experience
• First-Time Travelers: Not Accepted
  • Must have completed at least one 13-week travel assignment

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

This high-acuity Neuro ICU cares for critically ill neurological patients, including:

Neurological Conditions

• Ischemic Stroke
• Hemorrhagic Stroke
• Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (SAH)
• Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
• Seizures
• Status Epilepticus
• Spinal Cord Injuries

Specialized Neuro ICU Care

• External Ventricular Drains (EVD)
• Intracranial Pressure (ICP) Monitoring
• Post-Operative Craniotomies (Direct from OR)
• Interventional Radiology (IR) Patients (Direct from Procedure)
• TNK Administration & Monitoring
  • Approximately 50% of TNK administrations occur on the unit versus the ED

Additional Patient Types

• Some Trauma ICU Overflow Patients
• Some Medical ICU Overflow Patients

• Typical Ratio: 1:2
• Occasionally 1:3 when patients have downgrade orders

• Not consistently staffed on the unit
