Associate Attorney

George Law is a litigation firm based in the heart of Miami's Design District, representing individuals and businesses in criminal defense and civil litigation matters throughout South Florida. We take pride in aggressive, thoughtful advocacy and in giving every client personal attention. We're looking for a driven attorney who wants to build a strong legal presence and grow with our team. We are seeking an Associate Attorney to handle a mixed caseload of criminal defense and civil litigation matters. Attorneys of all experience levels are encouraged to apply, though we prefer candidates who are licensed to practice in Florida and have some practical legal experience. You'll work directly with clients, appear regularly in court, and play an active role in cases from intake through resolution or trial. Key Responsibilities: Criminal Defense Represent clients in misdemeanor and felony matters, including DUI, drug offenses, theft, domestic violence, and white-collar charges Handle first appearances, arraignments, bond hearings, pretrial conferences, and plea negotiations Draft and argue motions to suppress, motions to dismiss, and other pretrial motions Review police reports, body camera footage, and discovery; identify defenses and weaknesses in the State's case Conduct client meetings, including jail visits when needed Prepare for and try cases before judges and juries Manage civil matters from case evaluation and pleadings through discovery, mediation, and trial Draft complaints, answers, motions, discovery requests and responses, and legal memoranda Take and defend depositions Represent clients at hearings, mediations, and trials Negotiate settlements and advise clients on litigation strategy and risk General Conduct legal research and writing Maintain accurate case files, deadlines, and billing records Communicate promptly and clearly with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills Excellent organization and ability to manage a high-volume caseload and competing deadlines Professional, client-focused demeanor Preferred Active member in good standing of The Florida Bar (recent graduates who have taken or are scheduled to take the Florida Bar exam will be considered) 1–3+ years of experience in criminal defense, prosecution (State Attorney's or Public Defender's Office), or civil litigation Courtroom experience, including hearings, depositions, or trials Working knowledge of the Florida Rules of Criminal Procedure, Florida Rules of Civil Procedure, and the Florida Evidence Code Familiarity with Miami-Dade County Court and the Eleventh Judicial Circuit; admission to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida is a plus Bilingual in English and Spanish (and/or Haitian Creole or Portuguese) Experience with Westlaw or LexisNexis, and e-filing through the Florida Courts E-Filing Portal Key Skills We Value Strategic thinking and sound judgment under pressure Attention to detail and deadline management Empathy and the ability to build trust with clients in stressful situations #J-18808-Ljbffr George Law
