Billing Specialist Job Description A Billing Specialist at Dermatology Partners needs to have a strong familiarity with claims procedures, collections techniques and customer query resolution. Knowledge about preparing invoices, processing payments and pursuing past due balances. Well versed in accurately coding different types of procedures and diagnosis codes. Responsibilities Include Follow up on submitted claims to ensure claims are processed correctly based on contracted rates and quoted patient benefits. Review claims in a timely manner (denials and AR). Identify any payments not being paid at the allowed/contracted amount and communicate this to the appropriate billing manager. Answer incoming calls. Provide excellent customer service. Review and resolve all correspondence and overpayments. Knowledge of payer guidelines and payment methodologies. Submit insurance appeals. Resubmit corrected claims via manual or electronic methods based on payer. Strong proficiency in dealing with insurance companies with reference to denials. Provide weekly reports/trends to manager. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned. Desired Skills and Attributes Include Maintain confidentiality of all patient information. Understand and be able to read an Explanation of Benefits. Perform job in compliance with organization policies and procedures as well as community standards and in accordance with HIPAA. Strong investigative, problem solving, detail oriented and organizational skills. Ability to work with high volume of work while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy and demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. Minimum two years of claims processing, working knowledge of EMR system. Ability to multi-task. Ability to work as a team and/or individually. Customer Service experience.
