Substitute Nurse for L.E.A.D. Academy

An Alabama school nurse (RN or LPN) provides essential health services, including immediate care for illness/injury, administering medication, managing chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes), conducting screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis), and maintaining health records. They collaborate with staff on IEP/504 plans, educate on health topics, and ensure compliance with immunization requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Clinical Care: Provides first aid, emergency care, and daily medication administration, including delegation to trained staff when appropriate.
• Health Management: Manages student health records, updates immunization compliance, and implements individual healthcare plans for chronic conditions.
• Screenings & Prevention: Performs state-mandated screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis, pediculosis).
• Communication: Acts as a liaison between parents, school staff, and healthcare providers to ensure student safety.
• Emergency Planning: Develops and implements emergency response procedures for the school.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Alabama.
• Certification: CPR and First Aid certification required.
• Experience: Experience in pediatrics, public health, or school nursing is typically preferred.
• Skills: Ability to work with children, handle high-pressure medical situations, and manage accurate, confidential documentation.

Typical Working Conditions

• Schedule: On an as needed basis, Monday-Friday, mirroring the school calendar.
• Environment: School clinic or office setting with frequent interruptions.
• Physical Demands: Must be able to lift 10–25 lbs, stand for periods, and respond to emergencies throughout school grounds.

SALARY: $120 a day (Board approved salary schedule based on rank, certification and experience)
