Webber - Excavator Operator - Heavy Civil

Job Overview The operator runs a crawler or rubber‑tired machine equipped with an excavator bucket used for excavating ditches, structures, mass excavations, laying pipe and precast concrete structures, loading trucks and placing rock riprap. The operator may also use various hydraulic attachments. Essential Responsibilities Start engines, move throttles, switches and levers, and depress pedals to operate the machine. Signal the truck driver to position the truck for loading of dirt, rocks and other materials. Take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects. Oil, grease or otherwise service the machine as needed. Make necessary adjustments to equipment. Other Responsibilities Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to the supervisor and/or Human Resources. Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals. Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill. Perform other duties as assigned. Education & Experience Less than a High School Diploma and related construction experience. Working Conditions Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (e.g., rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.). Physical & Manual Skills Physical Activity Level – Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day‑to‑day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature. Manual Dexterity – Sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers, perceiving attributes of objects and materials.
