POSITION TITLE: Bus Monitor, Regular or Special Education

FLSA: Non-Exempt

SALARY: $11.81 hourly

WORK DAYS: 186/ 5 hours daily

LOCATION: Transportation

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation

This posting is to recruit for existing vacancies and/or positions that become available.

Primary Function: The job of Bus Monitor assists students during transport to and from school and/or special activities; and ensuring the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Educational Level: High School Diploma or GED

2. Certification/License Required: None

3. Experience: Job related experience desired.

4. Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities; lifting, bending, standing, ability to lift and move equipment and/or student weighing 40 pounds

5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Written and oral communication

Essential Duties:

1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.

2. Assesses potential emergency situations on the bus and within loading and unloading zones for the purpose of taking appropriate action to protect the well-being of passengers.

3. Assists students for the purpose of providing for special needs during transport, safe loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations and normal transport.

4. Attends meetings (e.g. training, D.O.E. mandate, first aid and CPR, in service, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information to perform job functions.

5. Instructs students for the purpose of enforcing rules/regulations and maintaining safety.

6. Monitors students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the students safety.

7. Monitors students (e.g. unruly, disruptive, abusive language, etc.) for the purpose of preventing distraction to the driver or injury to themselves or other students/passengers.

8. Prepares documentation (e.g. incident reports, inspections, student count, passenger misconduct, mileage, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.

9. Reports observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel.

10. Secures students and/or equipment with restraints, tie downs (e.g. wheelchairs, seat belts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students.

11. Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
