Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: ER Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS Must-Have: Behavioral health experience. Completion of 1-2 travel assignments preferred. Description: The emergency room receives a mix of patients, focusing heavily on behavioral health issues, STEMI, and stroke care. The unit is equipped for a fluctuating patient volume, with beds accommodating up to 22 patients if staffed appropriately. Patients are fast-tracked through triage for efficiency. Travelers may perform triage if they have the requisite experience. Emergency department holds are integrated within the ER structure. There are designated rooms available for psychiatric patients. Security personnel are available in-house 24/7. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. Common patient diagnoses include stroke, STEMI, sepsis, chest pain, and behavioral health cases. RNs are responsible for drawing laboratory samples, with phlebotomy assistance available as needed. Respiratory therapy is on-call and assists with complex respiratory procedures. The emergency room has both X-Ray and CT capabilities for immediate patient transport. Charge nurses typically do not take patient assignments but may assist as required. The department values teamwork and accountability, fostering a supportive environment for all staff members. Travelers are often welcomed and integrated into the team, with many opting to extend their assignments. Candidates must be willing to work a schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
