Functional aspect of the position:

The CNC Programmer is primarily focused on writing programs for the CNC fabrication equipment using offline CAM/CAD software. This position will also serve as a support function to sales and manufacturing engineering departments to help estimate new jobs and set up new parts for efficient production in the ERP system.

Programming, machine set up, and machine operation 80%

• Programs fabrication machinery such as CNC 5 Axis Tubing Laser, Flat Sheet Laser, Sheet Punch, and Press Brakes
• Create program work document with thorough detail to assist with operator success 
• Read and understand blueprints, job travelers, work instructions, quality documents and GD&T
• Applies knowledge of mathematics and instruments to calculate dimensions and tolerances.
• Identifies malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining; adjusts controls of machine to correct errors.
• Inspects and measures completed production units to identify defects caused by machine setup.
• Assists in maintaining stock inventory, ordering material for upcoming jobs
• Assist operator as needed
• Help operator as needed
• Operate machine to cover sick days/vacations
• Help troubleshoot manufacturing problems and create solutions
• Coordinates updating of process improvements with Process Engineering as needed.
• Assists Process/Manufacturing Engineers with establishing manufacturing processes as needed.
• Answer sales questions on our ability to manufacture a part. Also help with calculating time/cost for quoting purposes. 
• Answer engineering questions/back feed information on our ability to manufacture parts
• Use of inspection hand tools

Workplace Safety and maintenance 10%

• Proper and safe use of material handling equipment such as cranes, carts, etc.
• Follows all company safety rules, including machine operation and guarding.
• Help operator with required preventative maintenance

Reports/other related 5%

• Maintains simple reports on work orders handled, quantities produced and quality reports.
• Ability to follow work order instructions, blueprint reading and geometric tolerances.
• Performs miscellaneous duties and participates in training as assigned by a supervisor.

Other duties as requested by supervisor 5%

Physical Requirements:

• This role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. You’ll spend a portion of your time on your feet and hands-on with machines. All tasks must be performed safely, using proper techniques and PPE as required.

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree in Manufacturing/Technical Programming; OR completion of a full apprenticeship program; OR successful completion of suitable company training preferred.
• 2-3 years of related experience (5 year preferred)

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Familiar with FX 3D Tube or similar CAM software
• Familiar with Amada 4IE or similar software
• Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar CAD software 
• Understands blueprints, job travelers, work instructions, program and tooling sheets, tooling specifications, quality documents and familiar with GD&T.
• Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Use of inspection hand tools.
• Strong math skills including algebra, geometry, basic trigonometry preferred.
• Ability to plan, program, setup and run production based on engineering drawings and related documentation.
• Ability to follow quality plans and the proper use, care and calibration of inspection tooling and equipment.
• Good communication skills; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Good time management

Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Good working knowledge of material identification and processing characteristics and processes such as heat treatment etc.
• Experience with multi-axis machining
• Experience with CO2 laser
