Emergency Department - Paramedic, PRN

Paramedics provide emergency treatment, including advanced life support, to patients in emergencies. The Paramedic's role is to assess the urgent medical needs of patients and stabilize their conditions. Paramedics are the most highly trained emergency medical responders. This is a PRN role. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide duties that assist in providing patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Obtain and record vital signs. Perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy and oral, nasal and ET suctioning. Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy and saline locks. Notify the RN and/or physician of rhythm changes. Apply orthopaedic appliances and simple splints. Size crutches and teach crutch walking. Assist with equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, LP, etc. Assist with restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices. Transport patients and specimens. Assist with sterile procedures and cleaning and maintaining supplies and equipment. Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy. Perform fluid/drug administration. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic training program. Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross upon hire or within one year of start date in the Emergency Department. Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic training program. Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: International Trauma Life Support (ITLS). One year of experience as an EMT-P. Experience with IVs. Physical Requirements: Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Pay Range Minimum hourly: $26.65 Maximum hourly: $26.65 The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires.
