Job Title: Filler Operator – 1st Shift Job Description

The filler operator on 1st shift plays a key role in safely operating and maintaining high-speed filling and packaging equipment in a food manufacturing environment. This position works on a 2/2/3 schedule from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., supporting continuous production, ensuring product quality, and upholding strict food safety and regulatory standards.

• Operate filling and packaging equipment efficiently and safely to meet production goals.
• Perform daily and weekly preventative maintenance tasks, including adjusting and aligning primary machine functions.
• Make minor mechanical repairs and replace defective parts to keep equipment running smoothly.
• Set up jobs on machines by feeding containers onto conveyor lines and entering product information into computer systems.
• Conduct quality audits of filled products to ensure maximum and minimum fill levels are consistently met.
• Assist with packing and production activities at the end of each line as needed to maintain workflow.
• Stop machines and help break them down for clean-in-place (CIP) procedures, including mechanically disassembling equipment, which may involve working with water and cleaning solutions.
• Maintain full compliance with GMP and HACCP/FDA regulations for food manufacturing, including completing daily production records and quality reports accurately.
• Support and assist in training production assistants on GMP requirements and safety rules.
• Work collaboratively with other operators and production staff to resolve issues and maintain a smooth, efficient production line.

• Experience operating industrial machines such as filling, packaging, or processing equipment in a production environment.
• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform minor repairs and replace basic machine components.
• Familiarity with food manufacturing processes and standards, including GMP and HACCP/FDA requirements.
• Ability to use hand tools safely and effectively for mechanical adjustments and basic maintenance.
• Strong attention to detail to monitor fill levels, product quality, and accurate production records.
• Capability to work in a loud, warm, and fast-paced environment while wearing required hearing protection.
• Reliable work history and the ability to present and interview professionally.
• For stronger candidates, at least 3 years of recent experience in a highly mechanical role such as diesel mechanic, automotive mechanic, mechanical assembler, or maintenance.

• Prior experience as a machine operator, packaging operator, filler operator, or production line operator.
• Background in food processing or food manufacturing environments.
• Experience working on production lines with conveyor systems and automated equipment.
• Knowledge of basic computer systems used to set up and run production jobs.
• Experience training or mentoring others on safety and production procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to follow detailed procedures and comply with regulatory and quality standards.
• Hand tool experience combined with a solid work history and strong attention to detail, even if formal machine operating experience is limited.
• Motivation and drive to grow into lead, supervisory, or office-based roles over time.

This role is based in the loudest area of the facility, where food processing platforms operate in close proximity and run continuously, creating a constant hum. Hearing protection is required at all times in this area. The environment can become very warm during summer months due to the machinery running and limited climate control. The work area has strong aromas from sauce-based food products, including mustard, barbecue sauce, and various pungent dressings. The position follows a 2/2/3 schedule on 1st shift from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with other teams operating on 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Training can be scheduled Monday through Friday on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift, or from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., depending on what works best for the employee. Orientation takes place every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. and typically lasts about three days. Employees should be prepared for hands-on work that may involve getting wet during clean-in-place procedures and must adhere to all safety and protective equipment requirements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chambersburg, PA.

The pay range for this position is $20.48 - $20.48/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
