Banquets - Server

Position Summary Provides exceptional food service to property guests during events, special events, and other catered functions, as well as any other property hosted event as requested and scheduled. Primary Responsibilities / Essential Functions Serves customers at assigned station quickly, courteously, and efficiently. Obtains food and beverage from prescribed locations and serves customers according to established procedures and using appropriate service techniques. Keeps glasses filled throughout the meal. Observes guests to fulfill any additional requests and to note when the meal is finished. Assists other servers in a cooperative manner to ensure efficient service to guests. Completes assigned side work as directed. Sets dining tables to established standards. Removes any dinnerware, glassware, flatware, and linens that do not meet cleanliness and appearance standards. Completes pre, running, and post‑shift side‑work requirements. Familiarizes self with all items on daily menus. Sets tables/rooms with linens, china, etc., keeping in consideration the event prospectus and following established procedures. After events, cleans away service and accessories. Clears dirty dishes from tables as guests finish each course (when applicable). Prepares coffee service with appropriate food and beverages as stated in the Banquet Event Order. Follows all standard food handling, TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures), sanitation and health department guidelines. Must wear non‑slip, oil‑resistant shoes. Follows all safety policies and procedures. Reports potential safety issues to the Event Manager or Event Captain whenever observed and takes immediate action to resolve in emergency situations. OSHA laws require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing duties that pose a risk to health or safety. Team members are trained in the proper use and care of assigned PPE, which is provided by the hotel. Team members have a responsibility to report defective, damaged, or lost PPE or equipment that does not fit properly to their Manager. Maintains strict compliance with the hotel’s Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) program and familiarizes themselves with the current MSDS. Reporting to work as scheduled (on time and on a regular basis) is essential. Other Responsibilities / Supportive Functions Continuously maintains a neat, clean, and organized, safe and comfortable environment for guests. Assists other servers in clearing, cleaning, and resetting tables. May assist with setup and/or breakdown of function space. Notifies management of unsafe conditions, needed maintenance, or any accidents. Ensures that minors and intoxicated persons are not served alcoholic beverages. Reports any problems resulting from guest complaints, intoxication, or disruptive behavior to management. Note: This job description is not intended to be all‑inclusive. Team members may perform other related duties as required. Qualifications Prior banquet or convention services experience at a comparable property desired. Basic knowledge of food and beverage preparation, service standards of comparable hotels, guest relations, and etiquette. Ability to serve guests’ needs through verbal, face‑to‑face interactions. Positive attitude and professional demeanor. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to a high level of guest satisfaction. Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Complies with required training and certificates. Applies common sense to carry out detailed but simple written or oral instructions. Solves problems involving few concrete variables in standardized situations. Interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Speaks, reads, writes, and understands English. Willing to work varying schedules to reflect business needs, including holidays, weekends, and alternate shifts. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must complete TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) alcohol awareness certification upon employment. Must have a valid current Food Handlers Card or be willing to obtain one within 30 days. Knows all applicable health standards. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and regulations regarding serving alcohol to minors and intoxicated patrons. Maintains a clean appearance and professional demeanor. Great‑if you have Experience performing duties that involve frequent standing, walking, and maneuvering between multiple simultaneous functions. Comfortable with handling and moving plateware, glassware, and other heavy items up to 50 pounds. Physical Demands The job requires regular standing, walking, and lifting of up to 50 pounds. It involves quick pace, reaching, grasping, and exposure to hot and cold temperatures. The work may take place in tight aisles, noisy environments, and conditions with hot plates, glassware, or potentially hazardous equipment. Visual acuity is necessary to detect cleanliness standards.
