PRN Intake Registered Nurse - 7p-7a

Responsibilities Provide direct care to patients, including facilitating social and emotional needs, supervising medication schedules, and evaluating patient progress. Collaborate with interdisciplinary professionals to determine and provide best possible care. Maintain a safe environment. Provide social support by encouraging participation in support groups, social activities, and therapeutic measures. Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history. Plan and provide nursing care for patients. Make nursing diagnoses of medical and emotional status and recommend treatment options. Consult with psychiatrists and other behavioral health staff in designing appropriate treatment plans. Administer and note reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications. Arrange further medical attention when necessary. Assist clients in understanding emotional disturbances and accepting the need for treatment. Keep accurate charts and records of patient activities and progress; comply with laws, rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures. Use professional judgment to ascertain and apply appropriate intervention techniques with patients in crisis. Maintain safety for staff and patients. Test vital signs and ensure pain treatments. Document all patient information on medical charts and follow physician orders. Maintain patient confidentiality. Keep accurate records of patient treatments, immunizations and laboratory results according to standard medical record keeping. Perform administrative assignments such as filing, answering phones, typing, and completing progress notes. Qualifications Education: ADN or BSN from an accredited college or university. CPR, Behavior Management Program (obtained within 30 days upon hire). Required Licenses: Valid Texas RN license in good standing required. BLS, ACLS, CPI certifications a plus. Experience: Minimum of 2 years clinical experience, preferably in a behavioral healthcare setting, phone triage, tele‑health or case management, or combination of education and experience. Must be 21 years old or older. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledgeable of patient rights and laws pertaining to mental health and regulations on psychiatric nursing, principles of group and individual psychotherapy, symptoms and behavior patterns of emotionally disturbed patients. Advanced clinical knowledge in diagnosis and treatment of mental health, nursing principles, procedures, techniques, social, psychological, and physical factors of disorders, medical and psychological terminology, medications (including psychotropic drugs) and their effects, control and administration of medications. Sound leadership skills to organize activities and schedules for a shift and serve as a role model in clinical and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of treatment procedures and interventions for acute psychotic and non‑violent crises, medical and psychiatric emergency procedures. Basic knowledge of abnormal psychology for child, adolescent, or adult populations, application of psychopharmacy, teaching and training skills, problem‑solving, organizational and time management, crisis intervention skills. Application of professional nursing care principles and procedures in evaluating and treating psychiatric patients and developing therapeutic relationships. Effective communication with diverse individuals and calm functioning in sensitive situations; prompt, efficient service. Judgment in answering questions, releasing information, and analyzing consequences of decisions. Excellent written and oral communication skills, facilitation of process‑oriented and didactic groups. Bi‑lingual (English/Spanish) a plus. Screening & Physical Demands Must successfully pass background check, drug screen, physical examination and provide positive employment references. Physical demands include stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing for prolonged periods, walking, pulling, lifting, and moving objects up to 50 lbs; finger grasp; visual detection; repetitive wrist and hand motions. Light work most of the time, exerting up to 20 lbs occasionally or up to 10 lbs frequently; medium work occasionally up to 50 lbs often. Benefits $3,000 Sign On Bonus.
