Director of Volunteer Services

Voices Unhidden™, Inc. is seeking an organized, compassionate, and dependable Director of Volunteer Services to oversee the recruitment, onboarding, engagement, coordination, and retention of our growing volunteer team.

This leadership position will help ensure that volunteers receive clear guidance, appropriate training, ongoing support, and meaningful opportunities to contribute to our mission. The Director of Volunteer Services will work closely with executive leadership, department leaders, and volunteers across multiple programs and roles.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and oversee volunteer recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and retention processes
• Review volunteer applications and assist with scheduling and conducting interviews
• Match volunteers with appropriate roles based on their skills, interests, availability, and experience
• Maintain accurate volunteer records, contact information, agreements, training completion, and service hours
• Create and update volunteer role descriptions, onboarding materials, policies, and procedures
• Provide volunteers with clear expectations, assignments, deadlines, and organizational updates
• Conduct regular volunteer check-ins and help address questions, concerns, or performance issues
• Coordinate volunteer meetings, training sessions, and recognition activities
• Work with department leaders to identify volunteer staffing needs
• Monitor volunteer participation, responsiveness, and completion of assigned responsibilities
• Support a respectful, inclusive, confidential, and survivor-centered volunteer environment
• Assist with developing strategies to improve volunteer engagement and reduce turnover
• Recognize volunteer contributions and help build a positive sense of community within the organization
• Report volunteer program updates, concerns, and recommendations to executive leadership
• Ensure volunteers follow Voices Unhidden™, Inc. policies, confidentiality requirements, ethical standards, and professional conduct expectations

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in volunteer coordination, human resources, nonprofit management, community outreach, program management, or a related field
• Strong organizational, administrative, and recordkeeping skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to lead, motivate, support, and respectfully hold volunteers accountable
• Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills
• Ability to manage multiple volunteers, assignments, and deadlines
• Comfortable conducting virtual interviews and meetings
• Proficiency with email, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Zoom, or similar online tools
• Understanding of confidentiality, trauma-informed communication, and survivor-centered practices is preferred
• Experience working with nonprofit organizations or sensitive populations is helpful but not required

Commitment Expectations:

The Director of Volunteer Services should be able to contribute approximately 10–20 hours per week, including time for volunteer communication, interviews, meetings, onboarding, documentation, and program coordination.

Because many of our volunteers work remotely and may have varying schedules, some flexibility is required. The Director must communicate consistently, respond to volunteer and leadership messages in a timely manner, and attend scheduled virtual meetings.
