Nursing Station Tech (NA/HUC) - Operating Room

Job Overview Fairview is looking for a Nursing Station Technician (NST) Nursing Assistant/Health Unit Coordinator HUC for the Operating Room Unit at Fairview Ridges Hospital (Burnsville, MN). The role works under direction of nursing personnel to provide patient care while functioning as a nursing assistant and as a health unit coordinator. The position is a casual, 8‑hour shift, available weekends as needed on the rotating day/evening schedule (7 am–3:30 pm and 3 pm–11:30 pm). The Nursing Station Technician assists the professional caregiver in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, reordering, and stocking supplies. The role performs a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance of patient care unit desk area functions, and coordinates communication flow in the unit. This position does not work autonomously but under the direction of the professional nurse. The NST is a hybrid position combining Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties, delivering direct patient care and administrative tasks. In this role, you will work under direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork, and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast‑paced unit. Key Responsibilities Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding. Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts, and ordering tests. Setting up and maintaining patient rooms. Ordering and stocking supplies. Performing other tasks as needed. License/Certification/Registration Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview‑sponsored Nursing Assistant program. OR Six months of recent direct care experience in a long‑term, home care, or acute care setting (appropriate roles may include Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician). OR Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one semester of clinical rotation within the program. OR Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position). Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. OnTrack participants must obtain BLS for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
