Project Accountant

Support full-cycle cost management for large construction projects from concept through completion, ensuring robust cost controls are established and maintained.

Facilitate and manage the subcontractor change management process, ensuring responsible parties respond in a timely manner and that all documentation is complete and accurate.

Process change orders in the system of record, maintaining high standards of timeliness, completeness, and data integrity.

Perform audit and transactional finance support activities, including review and reconciliation of project-related financial data, with a focus on accuracy and compliance.

Support the preparation and presentation of monthly cost reports and risk assessments for internal and external stakeholders, highlighting key variances, risks, and recommended mitigation actions.

Participate in monthly stakeholder meetings and formal presentations by providing clear financial content, data-driven insights, and informed commentary on project cost performance.

Review and interpret contractual terms to recommend entitlements related to change orders, claims, and other commercial matters.

Coordinate with client finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate reporting and full compliance with financial controls and project accounting standards.

Analyze and report on local labor markets, union implications, commodity price fluctuations, and tax impacts to support project cost strategy and budget updates.

Assist in resolving invoice and change order discrepancies, as well as payment-related issues, by working with subcontractors, project teams, and finance stakeholders.

Maintain accurate records of all project accounting transactions, including change orders, subcontractor compliance documentation, and related financial data.

Collaborate closely with the Project Cost Manager, focusing on the transactional elements of project accounting while supporting broader forecasting and risk assessment efforts as needed.

Perform data entry and reconciliation tasks to ensure that Procore, Smartsheets, and related systems reflect current and correct financial information.

Contribute to continuous improvement of cost management and change order processes by identifying inefficiencies and recommending practical solutions.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field.

A minimum of 1+ year of project accounting or finance experience in construction.

1–3+ years of experience in a project management, cost management, or accounting role within the commercial construction industry.

Thorough understanding of construction accounting principles and practices.

Hands-on experience with the full change order lifecycle, including initiation, review, processing, and closeout.

Proficiency with construction management software such as Procore or Autodesk Construction Cloud.

Experience with project accounting, including reconciliation and data entry in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

Ability to interpret and apply contractual terms related to change orders, claims, and commercial entitlements.

Strong analytical skills to assess cost data, labor and commodity trends, and tax impacts on project budgets.

Ability to present financial information clearly to stakeholders, both in written reports and in meetings.

Solid proficiency with spreadsheet tools, including working knowledge of Excel.

Familiarity with Smartsheets or similar collaborative project tracking tools.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wheatfield, IN.

The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $48.07/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
