Protection and Controls - Substations - Electrical Engineer - Remote (U.S.) Full-time State/Province: Texas Business Group: DCS Legal Entity: AECOM Technical Services Inc Business Line: Energy Work Location Model: Hybrid Primary Location: US - Houston, TX - 800 Gessner Rd Compensation: USD 110,000 - USD 160,000 - yearly AECOM is hiring a Protection & Controls Engineer to support our Energy Business Line’s Engineering Center of Excellence in Grid Modernization projects. The position is open for remote work within the U.S. or hybrid at any U.S. office. Responsibilities Responsible for electrical engineering design work on assigned projects. Provide mentorship for other electrical engineers in the High Voltage/Power team. Work with Project Engineer and Project Manager on developing design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering activities. Perform power system studies and system protection settings coordination on various projects. Generate basis of design documentation for protection settings and relay configurations. Support projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning. Review engineering work performed by peers. Occasional travel to client and/or project sites for data gathering and field walks. Mentor early career engineers and facilitate internal training sessions, if requested. Level Specific Responsibilities Serve as lead engineer on projects of all sizes. Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for the team. Provide specialized technical input to studies and design for staff’s specific area of expertise. Develop study and design procedures to facilitate high‑quality, cost‑effective work by others. Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables. Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects. Use expertise in all steps of completing the discipline component of PS&E package. Perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings. Prepare technical specification sections. Provide input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience (or equivalent). 6 years of relevant protection and controls experience in electrical engineering. Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineering licensure. 8+ years of experience with 2+ years as a project lead. Knowledge of FERC and NERC requirements. Experience with IEC61850. Successful track record working with remote teams. Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish. Plant startup and commissioning field experience. Power systems analysis software experience (SKM, EasyPower, ETAP). Experience working in collaborative 3D model environments (e.g., Navisworks). Relocation assistance is not available for this role.
