Eligibility Specialist II - Economic Self-Sufficiency Specialist II

This is professional work determining initial and ongoing eligibility for social service programs, including reviewing and analyzing error-prone and complex cases to evaluate the quality of services, conducting training and mentoring staff as appropriately. This work also involves planning, evaluating, leading and guiding staff; establishing overpayment and over-issuance claims; conducting fraud investigations for public assistance programs; and making appropriate referrals to community resources and providers.

Examples of work performed include conducting interviews to collect/update personal data on applicants and clients and household members, assisting applicants and clients in clarifying and obtaining documentation required to establish eligibility, initiating necessary collateral contracts to verify information provided by applicants and clients, reviewing and analyzing forms, applications, documents or other information to make eligibility determinations, using mainframe computer systems or software applications to access, create, edit, print, send, retrieve or manipulate data, files or other information, providing applicants and clients with information concerning other department and community assistance programs and making referrals as appropriate, planning, evaluations, guides and coaches' staff as required, conducting fraud investigations and recommending appropriate action, reviewing and analyzing error-prone and complex cases to assist entry level staff, acquiring and maintaining a working knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, standards or procedures, collecting data, compiling and organizing information, verifying accuracy of data and reconciling errors or inconsistencies, providing training to other staff, explaining or justifying decisions, conclusions, findings or recommendations, maintaining or updating data, records or other information to ensure accurate case records, making recommendations for improvements, solving problems or taking corrective action when issues arise, using prescribed mathematical and statistical formulas, schedules, tables or procedures to perform eligibility determination, collaborating with others or working on teams to accomplish work-related activities and to determine appropriate action or recommend improvements or solutions to problems, reading and understanding non-technical materials such as letters, memoranda, electronic mail or simple instructions, completing forms, documents or routine reports, composing simple correspondence or other written work such as memoranda and form letters, retrieving, adding or removing materials from a filing system, typing materials and transferring information from one document or record to another, and performing other related work as required.
